UK stops accepting TOEFL, TOEIC tests for visas

The move follows an announcement by the UK's Home Office that its arrangement with ETS to provide Secure English Language Tests had ended on April 5, 2014.

TOEFL and TOEIC are the two main English language tests organized by ETS, and a large number of Chinese students apply at UK universities with the test scores every year.

Analysts said the new provision would directly influence overseas students who have received offers from UK universities because of TOEFL scores and were about to apply for visas.

Experts advised these students to take a Secure English Language Test that the UK has explicitly approved, such as IELTS and PTE.

A BBC report in February revealed systemic fraud in tests conducted by ETS in the UK.
