The preliminary round is composed of two parts, written exam and interview. Though checking the phonology and morphology of Chinese words, semantic rhetoric and cultural history, the written exam is designed to check the level of Chinese and the degree of understanding of Chinese culture. Though checking self introduction, asking and answering and talent showing, the interview is designed to check their speech, logic and the capability of talents. In the interview, the contestants showed a great competition between them, they all showed their own characters and answered questions fluently; Meanwhile,  there were all various of programs such as dancing ,sing, guzheng solo, one-man comic talk, short sketch, recitation and so on.

Four students entered the final, they are Natalia and Jung Woo Ju, Michael who is from Harbin University of Technology, Heo Shou who is from Harbin Formal University. And they will take part in the contest in Beijing during the middle of July, representing hundreds of thousands of foreign students in Hei Longjiang Province. The finals will set 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 5 bronze medals. There are 100 contestants of 910 zones respectively from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hei Longjiang, Hongkong and Taiwan and so on. The judges are all the Chinese linguistic experts, well-known scholars and well-known announcers from CCTV. When the time comes, the grand occasion of the final and awarding will be living broadcast globally at prime time on channel CCTV-4 , it is a Chinese international channel The leaders ,from Ministry of Education, State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT),CCTV Station, State Chinese Office( Headquarter of Confucius College) and envoys from six embassies in China will all attend the evening awarding party. Before the final, CCTV-4 will show two series of document about the preliminary rounds in 10 zones and foreign student education of high school sponsored the contest. It is reported that a special group set up by International Cooperative College, which is responsible for the Chinese intensive training, image design and the training for talents showing.

After the preliminary, CCTV Station interviewed the president of International Cooperative College and two contestants for final. It is also shoot our campus and other activities. The director of CCTV spoke highly of the style of our school building and gave a highly assessment of our prepared work for the preliminary round, especially the publicity designation, decoration of the conference hall, examination affairs administration and the reception. As the main sponsor of this contest, International Cooperative College worked closely with other departments like Foreign Affair Office, publicity Office, Logistic Services Centre, Education base for the cultural quality of students to complete success. All the media gave a highly attention to the contest, and the preliminary round was reported on TV News Broadcast of Hei Longjiang province. Meanwhile, some other media reported it as well including Hei Longjiang Chennal, Hei Longjiang Daily paper, Harbin Daily Paper, Hei Longjiang News Network, North-eastern Network and so on.
