Xiamen University Team successful in Cross-strait Traditional Wushu Communication Competition
On May 19th, the Cross-strait Traditional Wushu Communication Competition in conjunction with the 2009 Straits Forum came to a successful conclusion in the XMU Ming Pei Gymnasium. The Xiamen University Martial Arts Team won 17 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
The competition was sponsored by Wushu Administration Centre of the State General Administration of Sport, the Fujian Provincial Administration of Sports and Xiamen Sports Bureau, and organised by the Fujian Provincial Wushu Institute and bureaus in Chinese Taiwan. Some 900 athletes in 116 teams from the mainland and Chinese Taiwan competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals and honourable mention awards in the 3-day competition which included 1400 events in 130 classes.
The spectators were greatly impressed by the performances of members of the XMU team, notably 12 members the School of Public Affairs and the Medical School, a postgraduate student of traditional Chinese sports and a teacher from the Sports Department representing Xiamen University. They competed in 25 classes, winning great honour for the University.
