Seminar on China and Brazil Higher Education Internationalization Successfully Opened in Beijing

In order to promote the higher education cooperation and exchanges between China and Latin America, the Seminar on Enhancing Higher Education Internationalization: Opportunities for China and Brazil co-hosted by China Scholarship Council(CSC) and Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education(GAPES) was successfully opened on March 26th 2012 at Tsinghua University, Beijing. Delegates from 43 Chinese universities and 20 Brazilian universities attended the seminar.

The purpose of this seminar is to further implement the "Plan for Studying in China" launched by the Chinese government in 2010 and the "Science without Borders" project of the Brazilian government. Chinese universities will try to attract more Brazilian students to study in China, in order to enhance the mutual understanding and cooperation in talents cultivation and scientific research.

During the seminar, Chinese and Brazilian universities will have in-depth one-on-one discussions and consultations on cooperation. The Brazilian delegation will also visit some Chinese universities later this week.

The main objective of the "Plan for Studying in China" is to make China the most popular destination for international education in Asia by the year of 2020. Chinese higher education institutions are encouraged to provide high quality education programs and good services to international students. By 2020, the number of international students studying in mainland China is expected to reach 500,000.

With the "Science without Borders" project put forward in 2011, the Brazilian government plans to select and send 100,000 Brazilian students to study overseas between 2011 and 2014. The aim of the project is to train and reserve talents for Brazil, and to promote the internationalization of high-caliber talents cultivation for the country.
