Taoism in France

On December 16th 2010, an interesting lecture about Taoism given by Professor Rémi Mathieu is being held in the assembly Hall of Artois University. There are many audiences who are interested in Taoism, such as teachers and students of this university and some French teachers teaching Chinese in their country and some people who are just interested in Chinese culture. The professor is erudite and humors, so the assembly hall is filled with voice of applauding and laughing all the night.

The Taoism had been spread to France by Spanish and Portugal missionary before Columbus discovered America. From that time French people began to know and become more and more interested in Taoism and appeared some great masters in Taoism, such as Henri Maspero Emmanuel –Edourard Chavannes. There are also some associations about Taoism, even in some famous universities.

All of these advance Taoism in France, even in Europe.

Taoism is indigenous to China and is conjoint closely with Chinese culture, some ideas affect us deeply even today, such as inaction, the highest good is like water. These ideas are very important for us to solve some problems about society, nature and people themselves. So, researching Taoism is a very good way to know better about China.

The romantic and magic France is attracted by the fascination of Taoism, and also has a passion for learning, researching it, so the two nations will be understood better by each other along with their communication.
