Florida Institute of Technology visited STDU

      Dr. Dwayne McCay, the Executive vice President, and the vice President XuPeifeng of Florida Institute of Technology of the United States along with their delegation paid a working visit to our university. President WangYuesen and the vice President Rong Fei met them with  our hospitality. Both sides had the communication and discussion with each other concerning about the preparations for the programs, course docking, degree certification, the teaching modes of FIT and etc..The relevant officials and teacher representatives of International Education Department, Office of Education Administration, Students’ Affairs Division and Mechanics Department attended the meeting and had a deep discussion about the issues of concern in their own fields. 

      The cooperative program between STDU and FIT is officially approved by the Ministry of Education. It aims at introducing the advanced educational resources and teaching methods from FIT, cultivating the senior engineering and technical personnel with international visions and global consciousness, with fundamentals of Mechanical Design & Manufacture and Automation, capable of developing designing, manufacturing and installing all sorts of productions and capable of competing and cooperating directly in the international stage.  Mechanical Design & Manufacture and Automation (Sino-foreign cooperative education) program is joint by the outstanding teachers from our university and FIT. After two years’ study of fundamental courses in our university, students can choose to study abroad. Credits for previous study are recognized by FIT. And after four years’ study (two years in our university, two years in FTI), students eligible for graduation and awarding degree from the two universities will achieve the undergraduate course graduation certificate, bachelor’s degree certificate of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University and the bachelor’s degree certificate of FIT. Distinguished students can go on further study for master’s degree in FIT and achieve the master degree certificate there. It is informed that this program will start admitting students in 2015, incorporated in the admission plan of our university. And it is predicted to admit 100 students. 

      FIT is one of the top universities in the United States. It was awarded as the first ranking research university of the United States by the press and world reports. The comprehensive ranking for FIT in the United States is 160. It is one of the top 25 engineering institutes in the United States and the best institute of technology in Florida. FIT was founded in 1958, it has the right of degree-conferring for bachelor, master and doctor. It can confer 184 programs of degrees including 24 majors of doctor’s degree. FIT has more than 120 laboratories, research institutions and research centers. And its Melbourne campus has 270 full-time teachers and more than 5400 full-time students, including international students from 118 countries. In the past 50 years since its foundation, FIT has more than 50,000 graduates and the employment rate for graduates keeps above 97% for many years.
