Introduction

Sanming University (SMU) is a public provincial university offering undergraduate programs with the formal approval of the State Ministry of Education in May, 2004. It was originally known as Fujian Teachers’ School which was established in 1903 by Chen Baochen, a teacher of the last Chinese emperor Puyi at the end of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Located in Sanming, a newly-developed industrial city in Fujian Province and also a China’s Top Tourist City, Sanming University has over 1000 faculty and staff members, 15,000 full-time students, and a collection of 1.9 million books.

SMU lays continuous emphasis on its intro-university construction including the structuring of disciplines and the improvement of teaching quality. Meanwhile, SMU has been actively promoting international communication and cooperation.
