Abiy Hailemariam from Ethiopia, Master of Economics in Financial Engineering

I am currently pursuing master's degree program majoring in financial engineering at Xiamen University since September 2009. I am pleased with the education I have received at Xiamen University as well as the valuable learning experiences this institution has made available to me that have expanded and strengthened my education. The WISE program has a great match to my interests and personal background. This as an excellent opportunity to only enrich my education, as well as my personal experience, through the exposure currently I am fortunate enough to enjoy coupled with the further training I am planning to receive from the WISE program at Xiamen University.

I want to exploit to the greatest extent the help and guidance that is provided to me by the distinguished faculty members of WISE that will be valuable asset to my career goals. I am also especially attracted to the highly international character of this university, along with its geographical location on the Taiwan Strait as one of the first five Special Economic Zones in the early years of China's "opening and reform" era. Thus, I have no doubt in my mind that my further participation in WISE will enable me to realize my career objectives.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Xiamen University in general, and to WISE in particular, for the quality and beneficial knowledge, I have gained so far.

Studying in one of the best economic schools in China is indeed a privilege for me. Excellent reputation possessed by Xiamen University and the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE) enables it to attract many talented students from all around the world. I am also very happy to be in the same English-teaching class with the Chinese students. As someone who has lots of interest in China, I have learnt so many things from my fellow students: how China is improving so fast, how to make friends with the locals... and much more!

My professors and tutors are not only qualified and knowledgeable; they are indeed very nice people. I can approach them whenever I find difficulties in my study, even outside the classroom. Looking beyond the textbooks and lectures, from playing badminton together to having coffee session, from having dinner together to celebrating Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), relationship among friends and teachers is indeed very close. We are like family, and Xiamen University is like a home away from home for me. I would like to specially thank Prof Niu Linlin, Ms Zhang Wenting, Mr Zhang Mintao, and some other excellent professors and tutors I have here.

Talking about Xiamen University, people generally have a common impression: beautiful. After coming to this university, I can't help but admiring this very beautiful campus everyday. Trees, birds, hills, fresh air, Furong Lake, seeing is indeed believing. This is definitely a place I am proud to call: My University.

China is growing so fast. I think studying in this excellent school in China at this moment is studying in the right place, in the right time. Good opportunities sometimes don't come twice, so if you are thinking about applying to WISE, think no more. I and other students and staffs personally welcome you to enter this wonderful school.
