13th  February heralded the awarding ceremony of the Jiangsu Province’s premier  photography competition, ‘Seeing Jiangsu from a Different Angle’. The  competition is sponsored and organized by Jiangsu Provincial People’s  Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in association with  Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Jiangsu Provincial  Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Xinhua Daily Media Group, Jiangsu  Photographers Association and Jiangsu Maiqiu Media Group (Map Magazine). I was  really happy to have been a part of the awards ceremony for the “International  View, New Horizons” photography competition.

This  photo competition made me realize that taking good pictures is not about just  the correct timing and chance but also the expression of feelings and the inside  message that the photographer wants to convey.

I’m  thankful and honored for having the opportunity to see my pictures hanging on  the walls of the Jiangsu Modern Art Gallery.Lastly thanks to Morgan for the  great dinner after an exhausting day! J

Some  people say that a photograph is worth a thousand words. A lot can be said  through a picture. Snapshots of the same subject taken by different people can  tell vastly differing tales. The award ceremony in Nanjing for 'Seeing Jiangsu  from a Different Angle' exposed us to the viewpoints that foreigners from other  countries hold about Jiangsu. It was a charming experience to hear their  memories as they excitedly described the pictures. Even the Chinese members of  Jiangsu Photographers' Association had some pointers. An old lady who sat next  to me with her heavy Canon 6D cameras with a big telephoto lens was all too  willing to share her experience. Those made me realize that photography is an  art form that transcends languages and cultures. And seeing my pictures adorn  the wall in Jiangsu Modern Art Gallery was pleasing no less!

A group  of Jiangsu University students were invited to attend the awarding ceremony for  the Jiangsu foreigners’ photo competition. Combined, we won about 10 different  prizes; some of the photos that we presented won outstanding awards as well. The  event was very memorable because we formed new bonds with our peers from Jiangsu  University and from the other Universities in the province who have similar  interests as ours. The awarding ceremony was filled with dance and singing  performances from our friends attending different universities in Nanjing, also  there were several honored guests from different ministries attending the  ceremony. At the end of the award ceremony we were able to view all the photos  in the gallery area of the museum and observe the different techniques other  photographers used to take their images. Finally, before heading back to school  at the end of a long day, we feasted and shared stories with each  other.

To date,  I have been in China for just a little over a year now and I must admit it has  been an exciting experience so far. New people, new foods and new culture. It is  all a new way of life that I am experiencing first hand. In the time that I have  been here, I have grown in so many ways and one of the most rewarding was when I  attended the award ceremony for various photography competitions carried  throughout 2016. As a photography enthusiast it was an amazing experience for me  to view the work of other photographers as they received their awards, which was  truly motivating for me because it made me believe in myself. As for me, on my  part I was honoured to have two of my photographs put up in the exhibition hall  of the Modern Art Museum of Jiangsu. It was unexpected and I was very much  excited to have accomplished such a thing, to be given the chance to have  various people from all walks of life view my work and know I exist as an  artist, as a photographer. For this, I am deeply thankful.

On the  13th of February 2017, the "International View, New Horizons”A Focus on  Wonderful Jiangsu — Photography Competition Award Ceremony & the Opening  Ceremony of the Photography Exhibition was held at the Jiangsu Modern Art  Gallery, Nanjing.

Many of  Jiangsu University won awards in this competition and were invited to personally  attend the ceremony.

During  the ceremony, OEC students received certificates and special prices each,  ranging from the award they got. There were 2nd place, 3rd place, the honorary  "Excellence" award and the finalist awards winners from this university. The  award that I got was the excellence award for 'Lion Dance's photo.

Other  than the awarding ceremony, other activities have also taken place. Shows  including singing and dancing both by international students were performed to  entertain the guests there.

Following  the ending of the program was the official opening of the photograph library,  for everyone to see all the winning photographs.

At the  end of the day, we were all very happy for the prizes we had won and thankful to  the organizers for giving us this opportunity to win such prizes. It was  definitely a great memory.
