46 Int'l Students Enroll in SCP

A Short-term Chinese Program (SCP) was held at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) for 46 students from five countries including France, Norway, and Tunisia. The one-month cultural summer camp officially kicked off on June 30.
Yin Xinlin, the person in charge of the SCP, explained that the program, which started in 2010, aims to introduce Chinese culture to international students. This year's program features classes on topics such as making dumplings, calligraphy, paper-cutting techniques, and painting Beijing Opera masks. The students in the program will also experience a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony and attend many informative lectures.
Most of the international students come from Institut Supérieur d'Electronique de Paris(ISEP), and this is their first time in Wuhan.

Yang Laelitia, a French Chinese, told us her story. "My father was born in Zhejiang Province; my mother is French. Because of my heritage, I have been to China twice, but Wuhan is new to me. This city seems amazing." Interested in Wuhan, she asked her Chinese friends in France to make a list of mustgo places in Wuhan, which included Hanzheng Street, Hubu Alley, and the Chu River and Han Street, and many other places. "In addition to learning the Chinese language, I hope to travel around the city and learn more about local customs," she said.
Jiang Hanxue, a Chinese as a Second Language major, was one of the volunteers in charge of the reception. She wore traditional Han costumes. "By wearing traditional Chinese dress, I hope to share a part of our culture with our international friends," she explained.
