Brazil Science Beyond Borders Program Successfully Carried out

On June 20th, students welcome ceremony for Brazil Science Beyond Borders Program was successfully carried out in HUST international student activity center. 15 Brazilian students from this program joined the ceremony.

Ms. Zhao Xiaofeng, vice dean of SchoolofInternational Education, expressed her sincere greetings to all the new students. She gave a brief introduction to this program, and emphasized university’s academic and research achievements, and its international recognition. Entrusted by China Scholarship Council to educate students from Brazil Science Beyond Borders Program this year, Ms. Zhao stressed that the university would make every effort to provide students with the best education and services, and make contributions on promoting educational cooperation betweenChinaandBrazil.

One of the Brazilian student representatives on campus named Monica, a master degree student studying in school of economics, welcomed her countrymen in both Chinese and Portuguess. She expressed that Brazilian government had granted students furthering their studies inChinaand students themselves must study harder and win honors for their motherland.

During the ceremony, teacher representatives from relevant departments answered academic-related questions raised by the students, and gave specific instructions on curriculum arrangement and course selection. Ms. Yan Wei from International Student Office provided students with detailed explanation on learning disciplines and relevant regulations on campus. Students are also informed with learning strategies in Chinese classrooms and encouraged to engage themselves with more confidence in classroom activities with Chinese classmates. After the ceremony, student volunteers guided Brazilian students with a campus tour.

The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Lan Hanghang from the International Student Office, and teacher representatives fromSchoolofEnergyand Power Engineering,SchoolofComputer Scienceand Technology,SchoolofMechanical Scienceand Engineering, andSchoolofManagementattended the ceremony.

Science Beyond Borders Program is a student studying abroad project issued by Brazilian Government in 2011. It aims at preparing talented personnel for the country by sending students aboard to further studies in world famous universities. Chinese Scholarship Council signed an agreement with Brazil Higher Education Committee in 2012 to implement Science Beyond Borders Program with Chinese government and more than 100 Brazilian students were sent to Chinese universities in 2013, among which, 18 were sent to HUST.
