Central South University
CSU (Central South University) is located in Changsha, a famous historic and cultural city in central south of China. Being one of China’s top-20 universities, it’s a key comprehensive university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education. CSU has a long history. Its medical school was found in 1914, and was the first to teach western medicine in China. In the middle of the 20th century, the best disciplines in the national nonferrous metal industry and in civil engineering in the south central China were aggregated in CSU. At the beginning of the 21st century, CSU reconfigured in the disciplines of engineering, sciences, medicine, humanities, etc. The fields of study at CSU cover 11 branches of learning, namely engineering, science, medicine, literature, law, economics, management, philosophy, education, history, and military science. CSU has 29 colleges and institutes, and offers bachelor’s degrees in 75 specialties, master’s degrees in 207 specialties, doctor’s degrees in 128 specialties. CSU has 17 national key disciplines, 18 postdoctoral exchange centers.
CSU counts among its rich array of academic staff and a great number of famous scholars who are influential both at home and abroad. CSU has 5 academicians who are members of the Chinese Academy of Science, 12 academicians who are members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are 3159 professors, among whom 482 are doctorate supervisors. CSU has already invited a great number of famous scholars to serve as honorary professors, visiting professors and part-time professors. CSU has trained nearly 180,000 professionals for our nation.
CSU has an outstanding scientific research faculty. Since 2000, CSU has undertaken more than 150 national key projects. The average number of research projects remains around 1000 every year. The utilizable research funds amounted to 700 million by 2005. More than 1000 achievements have won prizes at national or ministerial level since 1978.
As a prestigious university with advanced condition and infrastructure, CSU covers a floor space of 2,470,000 square meters and has a building area of 2,030,000 square meters. It also uses advanced teaching and research apparatus and equipment with a total value of about 1 billion RMB. The library of CSU have a collection of more than 3,100,000 volumes, Information digitalization and automatic management are applied in the library, academic centers, teaching and research buildings, stadiums, high-level student dormitories, activity centers, swimming pools, hospitals, banks, post offices, dinning halls and so on provide good conditions for the staff and students. Computer networks and internet cable system provide access to the CSU campuses and the world.
The international communication of the university is active and extensive. It has agreements on bilateral exchanges and cooperation with more than 100 universities, and has established academic and research ties with over 300 institutes in about 30 countries and regions. Now we have more than 200 overseas students from more than 30 countries and regions studying at the university. It’s one of the universities undertaking Chinese Government Scholarship projects.
Our campus is located at the foot of the beautiful Yue Lu Mountain and along the Xiang River, with picturesque and quiet environment. It is an ideal place for higher learning and scientific research.
