Ningbo University, established in 1986 by the donation of Yue-Kong Pao, is a dynamic, young and comprehensive university. The university began to be under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China in 2012, co-constructed by Zhejiang Provincial Government and Ningbo Municipal Government. It is also one of the key institutions of higher education of Zhejiang Province.
The school attaches great importance to scientific research work, trying to build a high level scientific research platform for innovation. During the eleventh Five-year Plan, the university achieved 2 Second-Class National Prize of Teaching, 1 Second-Class National Prize of Natural Science, 5 Second-Class National Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress.
The number of the teaching and administrative staff reaches 2,300 of which 1460 are full-time teachers, with 6 academicians, 278 full professors and 536 associate professors. The number of its students amounts to 47200, with 26,000 full-time undergraduates, 4452 post-graduates and 16670 adult-education students. In 2012, the number of international students exceeds 1000, including 670 registered students.
Ningbo University provides a wide range of disciplines: economics, law, education, liberal arts, history, science, engineering, agronomy, medicine and management. The university consisting of 19 faculties and colleges offers 72 bachelor programs and 154 master programs, and 12 PhD programs.
The University is located in the historical and cultural city of Ningbo of Zhejiang Province, bordering on the East China Sea. The University has five campuses, covering an area of over 184 hectares, with a floor space totaling 875,000 square meters. It supplies a complete set of facilities and services for teaching, and research. Its libraries now have a CNKI Network Administrative Service Center, and a collection of approximately 1,600,000 books and 100,000 GB e-books.
Ningbo University has been attaching great attention to the development of international cooperation and exchanges. Up to now, the university has maintained close links and intercollegiate cooperation with almost 80 well-known institutions of higher education in more than 30 countries. Bachelor programs designed for international students are offered in English including International Business, MBBS, Mechanical Engineering, Arts Design, Arts Administration, Engineering in Architecture, Logistics Management, and Aquaculture, while Polymer Science and Aquaculture for master programs.
