Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology locates in the beautiful Jilin City– the city of rime, which is China’s charming city. JICT is a unique chemical engineering university in Jilin Province. It was founded in 1958 and has been subordinated to the former Ministry of Chemical Industry, and it has been supervised by Jilin Provincial Government since 2001.After more than half a century’s construction and development, through generations of exploration and practice, JICT accumulated a rich cultural heritage with its long history, solid foundation, distinctive characteristics of education thus enjoys a wide spread reputation. JICT forms a distinct characteristic of “school-enterprise cooperation, educating people into talents”, and has been in the leading position in the traditional advanced disciplines such as Chemical engineering, Machinery and Electronic Engineering, therefore made great contributions to the national and local economic construction and social development.
JICT has two campuses covering a total area of 1,089 million square meters, the construction area is 437 thousand square meters; The total value of teaching and scientific researching devices is 170.5722 million yuan. The collection of books in the library adds up to 1.32 million. It has Graduate College, 14 teaching units (departments) and 1 Engineering Training Center,1 Analysis and Test Center. JICT covers six academic areas: Engineering, Science, Economics, Management, Literature and Medicine, all of which are developed in a multi-level way in the field of cultivating masters, undergraduate and vocational students. Now it has over 15000 full-time undergraduate students. JICT has 3 first-level disciplines granting master’s degree, 13 second-level disciplines, 1 authorized master unit. It covers 45 undergraduate majors and 11 vocational majors. JICT has excellent teaching faculty with 403 teachers who have senior professional and technical titles, 618 teachers who have doctor and master degrees, also 5 teachers enjoy the government subsidy of the State Council. One teacher is the member of University Teaching Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education. One teacher is the selected scholar in the supporting program of New Century Talents of Ministry of Education. JICT has 26 senior experts, prestigious teachers, middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at provincial level, top creative talents and cross-century talents.
JICT highly values the connotation construction and continuously deepens the educational reform. JICT also creates the mode of cultivating talents, focusing on the students’ spirits of innovation, practical abilities and engineering application abilities. JICT has yielded remarkable achievements in teaching. At present, JICT has 2 national characteristic majors and 7 provincial characteristic majors; 1 national practice base outside school and 1 provincial students demonstration base and 5 practical experiment zones for cultivating talents. In 2007, JICT was granted an excellent award in the assessments of undergraduate teaching level by Ministry of Education. In 2009, Chemical Engineering and Technology got the engineering education accreditation by Ministry of Education and became the first one among other local engineering universities. JICT is in the second batch of supporting the plan for “Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers” in China. In 2013, Chemical Engineering and Technology, as the experimentation major for comprehensive reform, was approved by Ministry of Education. In recent years, JICT got 9 teaching achievement prizes in Jilin province and won 44 national awards and 582 provincial award in the contests such as “Challenge Cup” for national university students; mathematical modeling contest
JICT takes its value orientation of severing local and vocational economic and social development It insists on the Industry-Study-Research combination mode. Its discipline construction and scientific research level has been increased year by year. JICT has two provincial excellent characteristics disciplines, 8 provincial scientific research platforms, 1 provincial undergraduate science park, 1 provincial Industry-Study-Research demonstration base and 1 provincial collaborative innovation center. In recent years JICT has undertaken more than 1000 research projects, including 14 national research projects and 160 provincial research projects, 763 research projects aiming at the development and service for the enterprises in the lateral projects. Funds in scientific research added up to 158 million yuan. JICT won 43 achievement awards over provincial level and applied for 133 patents for invention. Among the academic papers of 2881 published by the teachers more than 305 of them have been indexed by SCI, EI, ISIP. JICT insists on “Revitalizing the university through science and technology; Strengthening the university through talents”, filling in the gaps in the field of Chemical process simulation and analysis; heat-exchanger system optimization and so on. This has broader domestic impacts. JICT also has apparent advantages in the research field of fine chemistry development; nondestructive testing; fluid seal; new technique of water pollution control and so on. JLICT has developed extensive international exchanges and cooperation and build a platform for students’ further growth. Now JLICT has established educational exchanges and scientific cooperation with more than 20 universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Korea and other countries. It has carried out various modes of cooperative education successfully.
