University Profile
Beijing Radio and Television University (BTVU) is an open university dedicated to distance education by using radio, television, computer network, textbook and audio-video textbooks. It is an important component of CCRTVU system with branches spreading around Beijing, constitute a long-distance system of holistic planning, independent running and management of branches. We have 53 branches in different districts and rural areas, among which 20 are branches and 33 are work stations and learning centers. BTVU has one direct affiliation, the College of Open Education.
The mission of BTVU is to provide different forms of open education service. It promotes educational opportunity and social justice by offering high-quality university education to all who wish to realize their ambitions and fulfill their potential. BTVU promotes community education, rural education, vocational training, non-degree education, to satisfy people’ learning needs, to renovate knowledge and facilitate new skill training. It makes full use of educational resources, builds modern open education public service system, and provides supporting service for higher education school and other education institute.
BTVU occupies an area of 52919 square meters with 1900 staff, 815 of them are full-time teachers. Beijing, as the capital of China, owns ample educational recourses and outstanding teaching resources. BTVU also invites famous experts, researchers to deliver lectures, or to serve as consultants and advisors.

Few cities in the world besides Beijing have served as the political and cultural centre of an area as immense as China for so long. The Encyclop?dia Britannica describes it as, "One of the world's great cities," and declares that the city has been an integral part of China’s history for centuries, and there is scarcely a major building of any age in Beijing that doesn't have at least some national historical significance. Beijing is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, and huge stone walls and gates. Its art treasures and universities have long made the city a centre of culture and art in China.
