Chinese Language Program (2014)
1. Length of Schooling
1)Long-term Program: 1 semester up to 3 years. Every year has two semesters. Each semester lasts for about 4 months. Spring Semester opens in late February and Fall Semester opens in Mid-September. There are 20 academic hours each week (each academic hour lasts for 45 minutes).
2) Short-term students may be enrolled in the Long-term Program: Length of schooling is 1-3 months.

2. Training Courses
1) Basic Chinese Language Courses( in the morning) include Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation of various levels.
2) Free-charged Elective Courses(in the afternoon) include
- Courses, not required Chinese basis, such as Chinese Characters Writing, Calligraphy, Taijiquan, Paper Cutting, Chinese Elocution, Chinese Language Partners;
- Courses, required Chinese basis, such as HSK Tutoring, Chinese Modern History, Modern Literature, Security Investment, International Investment, Chinese-Foreign Cultural Exchange History, E-Business;

Intensive Chinese Language Program (2014)
1. Teaching Target and Goals
The Intensive Chinese Language Program is specially orchestrated for the international students who are going to study undergraduate programs in China, and those who want to improve their Chinese proficiency in the short term. The program aims at helping the international students, within a short period of time, construct their own Chinese language system, do daily communication in Chinese and speak or discuss on a topic in Chinese by focusing on Chinese lexicology and grammar teaching. After completing one academic year’s course of the program, the students’ Chinese proficiency is expected to meet the requirements of entering an undergraduate program in China and reach New HSK level 5 (or old HSK level 6).
2. Training Courses
1) Basic Chinese Language Courses, including Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation.
2) HSK Intensive Training Courses, focusing on intensive training in the aspects of Chinese listening, grammar, reading and comprehensive Chinese.
3) There’re 36 teaching hours per week.
3. Application Deadline: December 31 for Spring Semester and June 30 for Fall Semester.
Summer Chinese Language Program (2014)
1. Curricula and Activities
Courses: Mainly Chinese courses including Listening Comprehension, Conversation and Reading.
Courses load: 20 teaching hours per week, 4 teaching hours each morning (8:30-11:50), Monday through Friday. Also available are elective courses such as Chinese Economy and Culture, Chinese Calligraphy, Taijiquan (shadow boxing) and Chinese Wushu. The minimum enrollment for each course is 20 students. These courses are taught in the afternoon.
Activities: ① Inner city tours are offered once a week (scenic spots, museums, acrobatics etc.)
② Weekend tours are available at students’ own expense.
Summer Chinese Culture Program 2014
Feeling China: An Exploration of Chinese Culture
(July 7 – July 25, 2014)
For thousands of years, China has been an important contributor to the diversity and splendor of the world’s civilization. Despite its acknowledged significance as an economic and political power, much less is known about the country, and much more is to be explored, to be felt, to be understood and to be appreciated. In this increasingly interconnected world, to maintain a truly global perspective, an understanding of China is just indispensible.
International students on this program shall attend 18 well-knit lectures (all in English), as well as 3 substantially-contented workshops. Overseas students and SISU students shall work together on the program toward a better understanding of China, Chinese culture and how it relates to the world.
Application period: ① Before May 20, applicant can get JW202 form and Acceptance Letter. ② After May 20, applicant can get Acceptance Letter by fax or email but should apply for a tourist visa to China by himself.
Campus Life
SISU Guesthouse, an 18-storey building, built in 2000 and refurnished in 2011, is located on Hongkou Campus, just opposite to the SISU Gymnasium which is equipped with a swimming pool, a fitness center, a billiard table and indoor volleyball/basketball/badminton court. Inside there is a cafeteria, a grocery, a beauty parlor and an ATM. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room is equipped with central air-conditioning, a private bathroom (tub bath/shower), a telephone, a TV set, internet access, etc. There’s a communal use kitchen on each floor, with a washing machine, a fridge and a microwave oven.
For semester programs: Double room 75 RMB per person per day; Single room 125 RMB per day; Superior Single room: 160 RMB/day..
For summer or winter programs: Double room 80 RMB per person per day; Single room 130 RMB per day; Superior Single room: 160 RMB/day..
SISU Hotel, an 18-storey building, built in 1996, is located at 555 Chifeng Road, Hongkou District, with a distance of 5-minute walk from the campus. The Hotel, equipped with central air-conditioning, inside has a cafeteria, a grocery and a beauty parlor. Both double rooms and single room are available. Each room has a private bathroom, a telephone, a TV set, internet access, etc.
Double room: 65 RMB per person per day; Single room: 140 RMB per day.
For less-than 3 month short-term programs: Double room 70 RMB/person/day; Single room: 140 RMB/day.
Foreign Experts’ Building, a multiple-storey building built in 1994, is located at 121 Guangling No.1 Road, Hongkou District, with a distance of ten-minute walk from the campus. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room has an air-conditioner, a private bath, a telephone, a TV set and internet access.
Double room: 60 RMB per person per day; Single room: 100 RMB per day.
Jinjiang Inn, established in 2000 and renovated in 2010, it is managed by the Jinjiang International Hotels
Group. Renowned for its good services, the inn provides FREE accesses to high-speed internet surfing (Wi-Fi), mini-fridge and public microwave as well as self-service laundry and set meals for international students at reasonable charges. Located on No. 718 Xi Jiangwan Road, it is extremely convenient in transportation and only 5-minute away from the campus of our university.
For semester programs: Double room 80 RMB per person per day; Single room 150 RMB per day. For short-term (less than 3 moths): Double room 85 RMB per person per day; Single room 155 RMB per day.
Dormitory in Songjiang Campus (Only for students who study degree programs in Songjiang Campus): a three-storey building built in 2001, is located on Songjiang Campus of SISU. Each room is equipped with an air-conditioner, a private bath, a telephone, a TV set and free Wi-fi access.
Triple room: 50 RMB per person per day; Double room: 65~75 RMB per person per day;
Single room: 100 RMB per day.
Scholarship
1. A type of scholarship (full scholarship)
A category used to fund scholarships major outstanding master's degree or doctorate students. A type of scholarship will be free of registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation and major illness and accident insurance; distributed monthly scholarships for living expenses, graduate 1100 yuan per month, 1,400 yuan PhD.
2. Class B scholarship (partial scholarship)
Class B used primarily to finance scholarships to Shanghai to accept the excellent academic education of foreign students on scholarship category B will be free of registration fees, tuition fees, basic teaching materials.
3. C Class Scholarship (outstanding student scholarship)
C-type awards scholarships for students to remain in the hospital's long-term foreign students with good academic performance, type of scholarship on the C implementation of a one-time incentive.
Applicant Qualifications
Shanghai is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, the longest river in China, on the west bank of the East China Sea and in the middle of Chinas coastline. Through its coastal position Shanghai acts as a link between China’s inland regions and the outside world, and it is comfortable with both eastern and western cultures. It is a north subtropical monsoon climate in shanghai. Its four seasons is quite distinct with full sunshine and plenty of rainfall. It is mild and humid in Shanghai. the Spring and Autumn is a little bit shorter while the Winter and Summer is longer.
With a history of more than 700 years, Shanghai was once the financial center of the Far East. Since the reforms that began in the 1990’s great changes have taken place in the city. The municipal government is working towards building Shanghai into a modern metropolis and a global economic, financial, trading and shipping center by 2020.
Today, with a land area covering 6,340 square kilometers and a population of 16 million people, Shanghai has become the largest economic center in China and an important port city. It has maintained a GDP growth rate of over 10 percent in the last 11 years. More than 100 foreign countries and regions have investments in some 30,000 local projects, taking advantage of the 74 deep-water berths and 20 international container piers at the Shanghai Port. Hongqiao and Pudong International airports link Shanghai with 141 cities in 29 foreign countries and regions everyday.
The fluent communications systems and exchanges between people, commodities, capital, technology and information has made Shanghai a vibrant city.
Shanghai is also a prominent historical city in China with a rich cultural heritage. The vintage western style buildings on the Bund and the modern Lujiazui Financial Center in Pudong face each other across the Huangpu River. On the other hand, Yuyuan Garden and Longhua Temple display graceful ancient Chinese architecture.
In the last few years, various fashion shows, art and cultural festivals have attracted many foreign tourists. The 2010 Shanghai World Expo alone is expected to entertain some 75 million foreign visitors. The shopping malls on Nanjing road, Huaihai Road and in the Xujiahui Business Center showcase the most stylish and chic products in the world, and are filled with people everyday.
Currently there are 60 regular Higher Education Institutions (including private-run colleges and vocational technical colleges) and 5 independent joint colleges. The total enrollment of undergraduate students reached 466,300. There are 86,900 graduate students studying at 51 institutions. There also have been nearly 35,000 foreign students studying at 33 universities or colleges and scientific research institutions.
