The Xi'an Institute of Arts and Science, which is also known as the Xian University of Arts and Science, is located on the Taibai South Road in Xian. As throughout much of China, the university is seeking to develop closer ties with the outside world and now accepts international students. It has received exchange students from South Korea, Japan, the Ukraine, the United States and Australia. The university has worked closely with University of Kyoto, Japan and Ukraine School of Mines establishing cooperatives.
The university is approved by the Chinese State Ministry of Education as a full time undergraduate institute of higher learning. The current institution is the result of some merging and renaming of other Xian educational facilities and essentially dates from 1952. Since its inception the university has graduated thousands of students, many of which have become leaders in their professions throughout China. Alumni and research units within the university have received honors in China for their work.
The university is well respected throughout China for its academic output and publishing which includes the nationally esteemed Tangdu Journal. The university offers a variety of degree courses including: Education, Literature, Science, Engineering, Management, Law, History and Agriculture.
In true Chinese style the campus of the university from the outside appears immense and intimidating, with huge concrete blocks reminding you that you are indeed in a communist country. Inside the campus walls however, there are vast lawns and some beautiful shaded areas that soften the concrete maze of faculty buildings.
