Situated in the Chinese eastern seaside city Qingdao, Qingdao University (QU) is a new comprehensive university in Shandong Province, which was combined with the former Qingdao University, Shandong Textile Engineering Institute, Qingdao Medical College and Qingdao Teachers’ College in 1993. QU comprises of 25 colleges, 73 specialties with undergraduate programs covering literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management, natural sciences, engineering, medical science, education, etc. There are 25 provincial key disciplines, laboratories, and engineering research centers, and 66 specialties with doctor and master programs. We have 2,000 teachers, including one member of Chinese Academy of Science, two members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and another 7 external academicians, 281 full professors, 868 associate professors. International exchange programs have been established with more than 40 universities and regions, including the USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, etc. Now the wheel of history has steered into the 21st century and the new millennium. A new era of reform and development has begun. QU also faces unprecedented new challenges and opportunities. We're determined to seize the opportunities and meet the challenge. To do this, QU must insist her aim of development: “to be open-minded, internationalized and high-graded”, must maintain its focus on teaching and research, on development, must strengthen international contacts to become a bridge for cultural, scientific and technological exchanges between the east and the west of the world. Qingdao University is situated in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, China, in a beautiful setting on the coast of the Yellow Sea with Mount Fushan in the background. Founded in 1924, it has become a well-establish2，049ed university. In 1993, Qingdao University became even more versatile when it was merged with three other major universities. The rich local culture blended with the spirit of the times and the favorable support from the Shandong Provincial Government enabled Qingdao University to develop into a new type of comprehensive university. It has a wide range of disciplines and is accredited to grant Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees.

Of the 200 educational institutions approved by the State Education Commission to enroll international Students, Qingdao University is one of the vanguard universities. There has been a gradual increase in the number of international students since 1987 when the first group appeared on campus. Now, we enjoy the largest percentage of exchange students in universities and colleges of Shandong Province with international students from more than 20 counties, namely the USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Lebanon, Sudan, Russia, Brazil, Bolivia, Korea, Japan and Venezuela. Moreover, Qingdao University is an authorized HSK Test Center (The Chinese proficiency Test) and organizes HSK tests at different levels including HSK Basic and HSK Elementary-Intermediate and HSK Advanced. Authorized as an“Education Center of Chinese Language and Culture”by the Overseas Chinese Bureau of the State Council in 2004, Qingdao University has become one of the dozen universities in China which offers quality courses in the Chinese language and culture..

The International Program Building has become a multifunctional compound incorporating teaching, learning, and living facilities including classrooms, accommodations, canteen, teaching room, Internet room and a gymnasium. All lecture rooms are well equipped with advanced audio-video facilities. The new international students’ dormitory building opened in September 2006 is also well equipped and provides modern, comfortable living accommodations.
