University Profile
Guangxi Teacher Education University was founded in October 1953. Originally, it was called Guangxi Secondary Teacher Training College. Then in December 1978, ratified by the State Council, and based on the Teacher Training Department of Guangxi Education College, it was renamed Guangxi Teachers College, becoming a full-time undergraduate teacher training college (on February 1 st , 1979, according to the Ministry of Education, it was changed to Nanning Teachers College). And in 1985 it was officially fixed to be Guangxi Teachers College. On January 1, 2003, approved by the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Nationality Teacher School was merged into this college and rebuilt into this new Guangxi Teacher Education University.
Over the past 50 years, Guangxi Teacher Education University, with the care and support of the Party and the Government as well as various circles of the society, has developed into a higher teacher education university with a large scale, sound foundation, rational majors and great potentiality. Keeping pace with the times, Guangxi Teacher Education University has in recent years made great achievement and brought about a leapfrog development in the fields of personnel training, discipline construction, staff improvement, scientific research and infrastructure. With its extending scale, remarkably-raised level and strengthening capability, our university has now improved greatly in school administration and teaching. Its ability in scientific research and exploitation is becoming increasingly renowned. In 2002, the University successfully passed the accreditation on undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education, which has won wide recognition of the specialists, the government and all circles of the society.
The present university consists of two campuses : one on Mingxiu Road and the other on Changgang Road. There are eight departments (faculties), five colleges, one secondary education department, three general teaching institutes, one training department for primary teachers and thirteen research institutes. It is the training base for headmasters and teachers of primary and middle schools of Guangxi, and the experimental base for remote education in Guangxi. The University is now offering forty majors for bachelor degree and ten MA & MS disciplines, and has two provincial key experimental labs, one Scientific and Technological Innovation Unit of Guangxi. There are over 900,000 books storing in the library. The campus net has fulfilled its Internet with fully functional capacities. The in-service faculty has 1,100 professional, including 240 teachers with senior professional posts, 120 teachers with doctorate and master degrees, and 60 in-study doctorate and masters. Student enrollment has reached to 19,000, including students at different levels of learning.
The foundation of teaching and scientific research of the University is solid. For many years, with the deepening of teaching and learning reform, teaching quality has steadily improved. The University has won momentous awards in teaching and scientific research: the National Scientific and Technological Progress Prize, the first Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Prize of Excellent Achievement in Teaching by the Ministry of Education, and the Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Guangxi, just to mention a few. Over the past 50 years the University has trained a great number of brilliant graduates who, relying on their solid foundation of knowledge and skills, good virtue and eminent comprehensive qualities have devoted themselves to the educational causes, economic development and social progress of the country. Many of them have been awarded national and Guangxi's excellent teacher recognitions, becoming outstanding cornerstone teachers and educational administrators. Some have become entrepreneurs or leaders in the party or government at various levels, projecting a very favorable light upon the University and its graduates.
In addition, the University has received the following honorable awards: a National Advanced Unit in the Democratic Management of College and University, a National Advanced Unit in Nationality Unity and Progress, a National Advanced Unit in Ideological and Political Education of Graduates of Colleges and Universities, a National Advanced Unit of Mass Sports, a National Advanced Unit of School Physical Education and Sanitation of Colleges and Universities, a National Advanced Unit in Military Education of Colleges and Universities, a National Advanced Unit in Students Activities of Social Practice in Colleges and University and a Civilized Unit in Guangxi.

Applicant Qualifications
Nanning is the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage. It is 160 km from the border with Vietnam. It is in a hilly basin with elevations between 70 and 500 meters above sea-level. Qingxiu Mountain dominates the southern part of town.
As of 2006, the total population of Nanning was 6.48 million. Nanning is a city where Zhuang ethnic group live in compact communities, and also the only city in all the autonomous regions in China features a southern flavor, together with open coastal areas. Thirty-five ethnic groups live in compact communities in Nanning, including people of Zhuang, Han, Yao, Hui, Miao, Dong, and Manchu minorities, among these groups the Zhuang people make up 56.3% of the total population. All the ethnic groups live in harmony. Their peculiar ethnic flavors and colorful ethnic cultures make a deep impression on the visitor.
Nanning's tropical climate gives it an amazing amount of biodiversity. There are many species of animals and more than 3,000 species of plants. Its city flower is the Jaba flower, an evergreen shrub, and its city tree is almond tree which is regarded as the backbone tree used for greening and landscaping throughout the city. Numerous attractions Nanning has to offer include: Mt. Qingxiu, Nanhu Lake Park, Huashan Mural and De Tian Waterfall, etc.
