Co-established by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi University for Nationalities has currently more than 22,000 students coming from 35 ethnic groups nationwide. International students here enjoy easier access to HSK (National Chinese Proficiency Test), for the university has been authorized for years by the Ministry of Education to conduct different levels of HSK. Being a national key university in support of China's neighboring countries to develop Chinese language and a long-standing base for the Training Program of International Teachers Learning Chinese in China, it’s also entrusted with the National Test for the Certificate of Ability to Teach Chinese as a Foreign Language.
Guangxi University for Nationalities, one of the early few to enjoy the opening-up policy, started to enroll international students in 1986. Majors and Programs
Guangxi University for Nationalities now offers 9 disciplines covering Philosophy, Literature, Natural Science, Historiography, Economics, Engineering, Management, Science of Law and Education, which involve 50 undergraduate programs and 40 postgraduate programs. The College of International Education in Guangxi University for Nationalities is responsible for international students’ enrollment, teaching and administration. The international students can apply for Chinese Training Programs, Undergraduate Programs and Postgraduate Programs. And the corresponding certificates will be granted from the university if qualified. Covering an area of 1,321,999 m2, Guangxi University for Nationalities is located by the side of a charming lake in Nanning, the capital city in Guangxi boasting a reputation of “Land of Songs” and “Green city”. In addition to the beautifully pleasant environment, the exclusive classrooms, language labs and apartments for international students are also provided.
The apartments for international students are equipped with color TV, air-conditioner, telephone, Internet access, desk, wardrobe, bathroom and public kitchen. Besides, hot water is available round the clock. A refrigerator is also available in each single room and twin room. The costs are: a single room ------¥66 RMB / room /day; a twin room ------¥33 RMB / bed /day;
a four-bed room ------¥1640 RMB / person /semester.
Applicant Qualifications
Nanning is the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage. It is 160 km from the border with Vietnam. It is in a hilly basin with elevations between 70 and 500 meters above sea-level. Qingxiu Mountain dominates the southern part of town.
As of 2006, the total population of Nanning was 6.48 million. Nanning is a city where Zhuang ethnic group live in compact communities, and also the only city in all the autonomous regions in China features a southern flavor, together with open coastal areas. Thirty-five ethnic groups live in compact communities in Nanning, including people of Zhuang, Han, Yao, Hui, Miao, Dong, and Manchu minorities, among these groups the Zhuang people make up 56.3% of the total population. All the ethnic groups live in harmony. Their peculiar ethnic flavors and colorful ethnic cultures make a deep impression on the visitor.
Nanning's tropical climate gives it an amazing amount of biodiversity. There are many species of animals and more than 3,000 species of plants. Its city flower is the Jaba flower, an evergreen shrub, and its city tree is almond tree which is regarded as the backbone tree used for greening and landscaping throughout the city. Numerous attractions Nanning has to offer include: Mt. Qingxiu, Nanhu Lake Park, Huashan Mural and De Tian Waterfall, etc.
