The Dai people mainly reside in areas of tropical and subtropical zones. Xishuangbanna is just located at the joint of warm and moist current from Pacific East Asia monsoon andIndian Oceansouthwest monsoon. Therefore there is abundant rainfall and balanced distribution of warmth so that it is suitable for the growth and reproduction of kinds of life-forms. It is the most concentrated area of tropic plants. It boasts a large number of precious and rare life-forms. Dai medicines are abundant.

There are more than 800 kinds of national medicines and 1,300 kinds of folk Dai medicines in 228 families and 372 genuses.

2. Steaming on boiling medicinal herbs

Decoct herbal medicines of the prescription after cutting them up, and ask the patient to sit above the container where the medicines are decocted to get steamed.

3. Punctured oil medicine

Cut up herbal medicines of the prescription and grind them into powder after the medicine herbs are dried. Immerse the herbal powder in goose-oil for future use. When treating patients, the doctor punctures the patient's skin with a clean copper needle and applies the prepared oil medicine.

4. Applying medicine on skin

Cut up herbal medicines of the prescription and pound them. Add wine, sesame oil or rice-washing water according to the patient's condition. Wrap up the mixture with banana leaves and cook over slow fire. Apply the medicine on the affected part of the patient's body while the medicine is warm.

5. Sleeping-on medicine

Decoct herbal medicines of the prescription with a little water after cutting them up. Take out the dregs and add some wine, then spread the mixture on a wood board. Ask the patient to sleep on the warm herbs and cover the patient with a quilt. The steam generated from the warm herbs can cure the patient's disease.

6. Steamed medicine

Decoct herbal medicines of the prescription after cutting them up in a container for some time. Orally take the herb-distilled liquid, or add wine to the steamed herbs and then apply the medicine on the affected part of the patient's body while the medicine is warm.
