Yandang Mountain

Yandang Mountain, situated in Yueqing County of Wenzhou city in southeastern Zhejiang Province, is one of the famous mountains in China. It is known as the Famous Mountain Above the Sea, and as the No. 1 Mountain in history in Southeast China, because in autumn, wild geese always gather in the marshes around the lake at the top of the mountain.

Great dragon pond

Yandang Mountain came into being about 120 million years ago. It is a typical ancient rhyolite volcano with total area of 450 square meters, 550 scenic sites and 8 scenic zones. Yandang Mountain witnesses its beauty in grotesque crags, caves, peaks and beautiful waterfalls. There, mountain peaks usually tower into the sky, presenting a spectacular view. Of the waterfalls, the most famous are the Great Dragon Pond, the Small Dragon Pond, and the Three-terraced Falls. Lingfeng Peak, Lingyan Rock and Great Dragon Pond Waterfall are called as "Three Famous Scenic Sites of Yandang Mountain".All that makes Yandang Mountain a famous natural seaside resort.

Foggy Yandang

It is not only well known for the unique and beautiful landscape, but also for lots of charming sceneries, such as the grand Yanhu Ridge and Dragon Back, the marvelous Fairy Brook and Qingjiang Landscape, the dim and gloomy Crescent Valley, Ningyu Brook, and other caves. Climbing on the summit of these hundreds of mountains, you can enjoy the vast and wilderness beauty.

The splendor of Yandang (North Yandang) started to be known in the early Tang Dynasty (618-907). It enjoyed even greater fame after the first year (976) of the Taiping Xingguo reign in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), when many temples, pavilions, and other buildings were established there. There were 18 ancient temples, 16 pavilions and 10 yards at that time. By the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), hundreds of grotesque peaks had got their names. Through ages after the Tang and Song dynasties, scholars traveled there and and contributed lots of poems, paintings and calligraphic works, stone carvings, making Yandang Mountain a great historical scenic spot.
