Specially Recommended Programs

i. Intensive Chinese Language Program
We provide intensive strengthening courses of Chinese with 30 hours per week at least, including comprehensive course in large class, drills in small class and one-to-one practice. It is intended that students quickly improve listening and speaking skills, grasp standard pronunciation and fluent oral skills, and master a certain amount of Chinese characters at the same time. Cultural tours in Beijing or minority areas are arranged together with watching of Peking Opera, Chinese acrobatic show and etc. The length of schooling can be one month, two months or one semester. ii. Undergraduate Program on Chinese for Complete Beginners
No requirement on basic Chinese skills; students can directly study this program for bachelor’s degree. During the first two years, students learn fundamental Chinese courses; while in the last two years, students can choose among the following three specialties: Business Chinese, Chinese for Tourism and Hospitality, or Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The length of schooling is flexible, around 4 years. Program starts at the beginning of each September. Transfer students or students joining halfway are acceptable. iii. Postgraduate Program on Ethnology (including Tibetan Studies) or Anthropology (instructed in English)
Ethnology and anthropology of our university rank the top in China. We provide courses instructed in English in such fields for international students good at English instead of Chinese. Without previous learning of Chinese, students can directly study for master’s or doctor’s degree. It is allowed to write dissertation and make oral defense in English. iv. Chinese Minority Languages Program
We provide instructions on languages of Tibetan, Uygur, Kazakh, Miao, Manchu, Mongolian, Korean, Yi, Dai, Zhuang, Hani, Bai, Naxi and so on. The length of schooling lasts for one semester or more. v. Introduction to Ethnic Minorities in China (instructed in English)
Courses on Chinese minorities are taught in English, in such areas as Chinese ethnology, Chinese south-west minorities, Chinese north-west minorities, Chinese southern minorities, Chinese northern minorities and so on. The length of schooling lasts for around 15 weeks (150 class hours in total). Program starts at the beginning of each March and September with 3 applicants at least. vi. Chinese Minority Music, Dance and Painting Programs
Students study courses on Chinese minority music, dance or painting at the College of Music, the College of Dance or the College of Fine Arts. The length of schooling lasts for one semester or more. 1.Non-Degree Students

1. Long-Term Chinese Language Student
The length of schooling lasts for one semester or more. School starts at the beginning of each March and September, and enrollment lasts for a whole year. Based on students’ Chinese level, classes are divided into five levels: complete beginner, beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced. Courses are provided in small classes, with 20 class hours of required courses and 4 class hours of free elective courses each week. Required courses cover comprehensive Chinese, Chinese listening, Chinese speaking, Chinese reading, Chinese characters, Chinese culture, Chinese composition and so on; elective courses cover Chinese minority dance, music, painting, Chinese calligraphy, paper-cut, martial art, shadow-boxing (Taichi), Chinese minority languages and so on. During studies, many activities are arranged, such as visiting famous scenic spots and historical sites in Beijing, watching Peking Opera and Chinese acrobatic shows, and visiting Chinese minority families. Chinese students are introduced as tutors or study partners.

2. General Advanced Student
Duration of study lasts for one semester or more. School starts at the beginning of each March and September. Applications shall be made two months before the start of courses. Students can choose from any of the bachelor’s degree programs, and study together with Chinese students.

3. Senior Advanced Student
Duration of study lasts for one semester or more. School starts at the beginning of each March and September. Applications shall be made two months before the start of courses. Students can choose from any of the master’s degree and doctor’s degree programs, pursuing studies on a certain subject under the direction of professors at CUN.

4One-to-One Tutorial Student
Courses start at any time, with application made at least two weeks in advance. Instruction covers Chinese language, Chinese minority languages, Chinese cultures, music, dance, and other fields as arranged.

5Chinese Language Transfer Student (joining halfway)
Courses start at any time, but students must have previous learning of Chinese language. Application must be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
