Taiyuan University of Technology is one of the major universities in Shanxi Province and is the only university in the province that has been nominated as one of the Top 100 universities by a national higher education program---“211 Project”. It’s history can be traced all the way back to Chinese-Western Grand Academy (1901) and then the Western Learning School of Shanxi Grand Academy (1902), which is one of the earliest three universities in China’s modern education.

With the long history of over 100 years and the solid foundation in both teaching and research, Taiyuan University of Technology has, in the last decade, made great efforts to turn itself into an internationalized university by enrolling students from all over the world, by sending its students to earn credits in the universities in other countries and by running joint education programs with the colleges and universities from overseas. 

Since early 1990’s, Taiyuan University of Technology started to admit foreign students from as many as 11 countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and others.  This university offers Chinese language and Chinese culture, Chinese Kongfu, and all the degrees to both overseas undergraduate and graduate students.

In 2003, Taiyuan University of Technology established College of International Education Exchange to further promote all the events in this area.  Up till now, three joint programs have been respectively initiated with North Melbourne Institute of TAFE, Australia, University of Hertfordshire, the UK, Sheffield Hallam University, the UK. The joint programs started to admit students in 2005.

Taiyuan University of Technology is looking forward to further cooperation with universities from all over the world and will go all out to speed up the internationalization of higher education both at home and abroad.
