Short-term language and culture programs

����The Institute of Chinese and International Studies offers the following programs year round for university or high school teachers, students, or individuals who would like to study Chinese language and culture for a short period in Kunming and other places in Yunnan:

����1. 4-month credit program for Chinese language and culture studies Contents: a. Chinese language: 240 teaching hours, 20 hours per week, 3 months' continuous study; b. 24 lectures: 2 each week. c. Study Trips to historic and ethnic places: In and around Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Nujiang and Xishuangbannana. Two papers are required after the study trips to these places.
����2. Yunnan Minority Culture Study Program during Winter Vacation: Contents: a. Chinese language: 40��60 hours b. 8 lectures c. Minority cultures trips: In and around Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Nujiang, Xishuangbannana or other places. d. Other activities: homestay with Chinese families (including minority families), experiencing the Spring Festival with families in a village, etc. which can be arranged according to the requirements so that the participants can experience authentic Chinese people's life in cities, towns and countryside.
����3. Chinese Language Program for Students from Southeast Asian countries: Courses on Chinese language and culture as well as trips are offered.
����4. Summer Camps for Students from Southeast Asian Countries: Camps can be opened any time during the period from March to September. Chinese language teaching, Chinese cultural courses, trips to scenic and historical places can be arranged.
����5. Yunnan Minority Culture Study Program during Summer Vacation:
Contents: The same as in Program 2.
����6. Cultural fieldwork trip to Water Splashing Festival of Dai people and March Fair of Bai people: Content: a. Chinese language: 40-60 hours b. 8 lectures: c. Minority cultures trips: In and around Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbannana or other places.
����7. Chinese Language and Culture Training in May:
Content: a.Chinese language: 40-60 hours b. 8 lectures c. Minority cultures trips: In and around Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Zhongdian (Shangarila) or other places
����8. Two Weeks' Program for Chinese Cultural studies and Trips to Historical Spots and Scenic Spots in Yunnan Province Contents: a. Chinese language: 5 hours b. 5 lectures c. Minority cultures trips: In and around Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Zhongdian (Shangrila) or other places (9 days)
����9. One week tour of the most famous spots of scenic sights and humanities:
Contents: Trips in and around Kunming, Dali and Lijiang.
����10. Fieldwork service for minority ethnic groups' research in Yunnan: Yunnan is a rare place of multiple cultures, where 25 minority ethnic groups live. Each year, many experts, scholars, M. A. or Ph.D. candidates in the fields of cultural anthropology or ethnology come to do field research in Yunnan. YNNU offers assistance to them such as applying to local governments to get their research program authorized, selecting the proper field sites, arranging proper experts to be advisors, etc. according to their requirements.
����11. Seek cooperative research fellows:
We also assist in seeking scholars in different countries with research fields related to Yunnan for joint cooperative work with scholars in China. Lectures include: Chinese history, Chinese geography, Chinese politics, Chinese economy, the reform and open policies in China, Chinese religions, Chinese ethnic minorities, Chinese literature, Chinese philosophy, Chinese traditional medicine, Chinese acupuncture, Chinese folk music, Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese martial arts (wushu), Chinese education, Chinese cooking, Chinese traditional musical instruments, scenic and historical spots in Yunnan, Chinese weiqi, Chinese chess, Chinese minority dancing, Yunnan local culture and Yunnan economy. The elective courses differ depending on the numbers of students who apply for the courses. Each student may choose 2 elective courses for free.
����Trips include: Kunming: Stone Forest, Western Hills, Nationalities' Museum, Nationalities' Villages, Horticultural Exposition, Chenggong Flower Farm, Fubao Village, Kunming Drug Rehabilitation Clinic. Dali: Old Town, Three Pagodas, Cangshan Mountain, Erhai Lake (Ear Lake), Dali Prefecture Museum, March Fair Lijiang: Dayan Old Town, Yunshanping Snow Mountain Meadow, Baisha Mural, Yufeng Temple, Lijiang Museum, Naxi Classical Music Concert, Traditional Palace of Mu Chieftain, Naxi Village, Yi Village, Tibetan Village, etc. Zhongdian: Temple of Tibetan Buddhism, Bitahai Lakes, Tibetan Village, etc. Nujiang: Nujiang Grand Canyon, Nuzu Village, Lisu Village, Dulong Village, etc. Xishuangbanna: Tropical Botanic Garden, Tropical Forest Reserve, Mantin Park, Nationalities' Villages, Daizu Village, Jinuo Village, Hani Village and Water Sprinkling Festival.
