Brief Introduction

Shaoguan university is located in the beautiful city of Shaoguan, at the juncture of Guangdong, Jianxi and Hunan Provinces, enjoying convenient transportation. Shaoguan is surrounded by many tourist attractions, such as the world famous Danxia Mountain (National Geology Park), Ruyuan Valley, etc. Its forestry overage amount to 97 percent, it is green all year round.

Shaoguan University is a public comprehensive higher institution, established in 1958, its campus covers an area of 2697mu, mountains, lakes, green grass, colorful flowers, fancy trees make the campus more attractive. Modern buildings with up-to-date equipments dot here and there. The enrollment reaches 15,000 full-time students, 10,000 vocational students per year.

The university is fully equipped with internationally standardized playgrounds, swimming pools, students�?recreation centers, more than 60 multi-media classrooms. The library covers an area of 30,000 mu square, with a collection of 1.39m books and modern searching system. Faculty totals 1478, with a balanced structure of 400 professors and associate professors, 70 doctorate holders. Its scholars and experts are well-known both at home and abroad. In 2004, its liberal arts and literature is listed among the top 100 nationwide.

The university consists of 9 schools, the school of Chinese studies, the School of Medicine, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Law, the School of Fine Art, etc. providing 67 programs, including Chinese, Law, Medicine, Art, Music, Chemistry, computer, etc., there are 33 research academes and 40 laboratories.

Chinese Studies

The School of Chinese is one of the eldest schools on the campus, and provides the best teaching. There are 2 programs, Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism. Now the school has more than 1000 full-time students and 52 teachers, of which 28 are professors and associate professors, 25 doctorate holders. The school highly values foreign academic exchange, and many times hosts influential academic seminars.
Since 2003, A Center of Chinese Teaching as A Foreign Language is established, providing courses for overseas students. There are specialized teachers with rich experiences of teaching Chinese as foreign language and qualifications of Mandarin testers.

International students are provided with the best learning and living facilities: multi-media classrooms, single or double bedroom dorms with air–conditioner, color TV, telephone, internet access, and washing machine.

1) To get a “Shaoguan University Foreign Students Application Form�?from the International Office of the university or download it from the website. (www.sguis.com, www.sgu.edu.cn /site /wsc /gjjl )
2) To fill in the application form, and send it together with copies of valid passport, school certificates to the International Office before the deadline.
3) An offer letter and Visa application form (JW 202 forms) will be delivered to verified enrollees 4 months before registration.
4) “Admittion letter�? and “Visa application form for foreign students�?(JW 202 forms) must be handed in person to the Chinese embassy or consulate in the applicant country to get the student entry visa (X Visa).
5) The admission letter and application form (JW 202 forms) must be handed in when reporting to the International Office of Shaoguan University before required date in the admission notice. Those who fail to get the student entry visa to China in time may report to the university with a tourist visa (L visa) for a period of more than 1 month or longer, and later change it to the student entry visa with the University’s consent.
