Qinhuangdao is a city located between the Bohai Sea on the south and Mt. Yanshan on the north, neighboring Liaoning province on the east, close to Beijing and Tianjin to the west. As one of China’s first 14 coastal cities further opened to the outside world since 1984, the four counties and three urban districts under its jurisdiction, the state-level Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ), the state level Qinhuangdao Export Processing Zone and the provincial-level Beidaihe ETDZ have attracted a large number of investors from different countries. Qinhuangdao has become an ideal place for both domestic and foreign investment. Qinhuangdao is the only city in China named after an emperor. Numerous legends and historical events endorse the city for rich culture background. The inspection of China’s first emperor Qinshihuang 2200 years ago, the downfall of the Great Wall by the mourning of Lady Mengjiang over the death of her husband and the frequent visits of China’s recent influential top leaders, add to a splendid culture of the city.

Qinhuangdao boasts the cream of both nature and gathering of talents. Beidaihe beach, known as the summer capital of China, together with Nandaihe and the golden beach, believed to be the best beach in north China, make it the best choice for travel, recreation and holiday visiting. The Great Wall in Qinhuangdao is the best liked section of China’s Great Wall. Yaohua Glass Group is known as cradle of China’s glass industry. The Shanhaiguan bridge works is the biggest producer of railway switches and bridge frameworks of China. The Sino-Arabic Chemical Fertilizer Co., Ltd. is the biggest phosphamidon manufacturer of Asia. Qinhuangdao port is the biggest energy export port of the world. Changli, where China’s first dry red wine was produced is entitled by the state council to be China’s dry red wine city. Qinhuangdao has witnessed in recent years a fast economic growth, an upgraded investment environment and overall social development. It was honorably awarded excellent tourist city of China, good hygienic condition city of China, the national garden-like city, and one of the top 40 cities of China that have the best investment environment. Qinhuangdao is a growing city and has a bright future. We’re trying to build this city into a garden-like, ecological and modern coastal city.

Climate

Qinhuangdao lies in temperate semi-humid continental climate zone with neither a very cold winter nor a very hot summer. There are no typhoons or other natural disasters. The annual average temperature is 8-11°C. The hottest days come in July, averaging 28-30°C. The coldest days come in January, averaging -10-15°C. The annual rainfall averages 670-730mm. The wind changes with the seasons, averaging a speed of 2-3M/S. The humidity averages 59-63%.

Location

Qinhuangdao lies 118°33’-119°51’E and 39°24’-40°37’N, located between the Bohai Sea on the south and Mt. Yanshan on the north, neighboring Liaoning province on the east, close to Beijing and Tianjin to the west, connecting the two big economic areas of North China and Northeast China. Qinhuangdao covers an area of 7812.4 square kilometers in three urban districts of Haigang, Shanhaiguan and Beidaihe, and four counties of Changli, Funing, Lulong and Qinglong. Haigang district is the government headquarters of the city.

Tourist Resource

Qinhuangdao is a coastal city of sound ecological and environmental surroundings, providing the city with abundant, high grade and relatively concentrated tourist resources. Qinhuangdao has set up three series of tourist themes namely the Great Wall tour, the sea shore tour and the ecological tour. Beidaihe beach, also known as the summer capital of China, together with Nandaihe and the golden beach makes it the best choice for travel, recreation and holiday making. The 126 km coast line boasts calm water, fine sand, green trees and elegant surroundings. It is believed to be the best beach in north China, an ideal place for coastal desert sightseeing, mud land bird-watching, an experience of fishermen’s life, sea sports and other beach activities. The 250km Great Wall in Qinhuangdao represented by the First Pass Under Heaven and the Old Dragon’s Head, is one of the best sections of China’s Great Wall and has considerable potential. The mountain and forest sightseeing resources represented by the Longevity Hill, Mount Zushan and mount Jieshi features rolling hills, breath taking rocks, waterfalls and springs and dense forests. Interspersed among these hills and forests are beautiful lakes such as Yansai lake, Tianma lake and Qinglong lake, adding charm to the whole area. This area is a nice place for forest ecological tour, countryside holiday making, pastoral life and exploration. Numerous legends and historical events endorse the city for rich culture background. Landscape

Qinhuangdao has a complicated landscape that is formed during the long geological evolution. We see a sophisticate distribution of the landscape of plain, mountain, basin, hills and so on. The landscape slants in direction of northwest to southwest like stairs. The mountain area is suitable for forestry and husbandry. Hills and plains enjoy a thick layer of soil and are suitable for grain planting. The main output includes corn, sweet potatoes, grains, rice, wheat and so on. The mountain area is mainly distributed along the Great Wall in Funing and Lulong and in Qinglong Manchurian Autonomous County. Mount Zushan, rising 1846.3 m above sea level, is the highest place of Qinhuangdao. It is also the peak of the eastern part of Yanshan Mountain. Hills cover 1863.8km2, rating 23.86% of the city’s total area, rising 100-200 meters above sea level. The plains mainly distributes in the themed-southern part of Changli, the southern part of Funing and urban area along the sea. The plain appears in broad pieces, rising 10-20 meters above sea level, covering 1410.2km2, rating 18.05% of the city’s total area. There are 3 relatively large basins in the city expect for the small one distributing in the mountains. The height decreases from 150 to 40 meters from north to the south. Liujiang National Geological Park is about 6 km wide, rich in various stratums. This is rarely seen in northern China. It is one of the sourcing places of modern geology. The park consists of three parts: one is the vestige part in Liujiang Basin, which is called one of the living textbooks of Northeast China’s geological evolution. Another part is represented by Mount Zushan, Yansai Lake and Mount Changshoushan, forming a famous scenery area. The third is a humanitarian and historical view area, equally renowned in China’s geological history with Huangshan, Emeishan and Hukou waterfall.
