To the fact, I was very lucky to study such university. I came to HIT as a Senior Research Scholar during the year of 2001-2002, which was one year and it was funded by the UNESCO and CSC (China Scholarship Council). The first thinking came to mind its Chinese environment and language barriers. I did not know a single Chinese when I first came to China. However the International Student Center is so co-operative and helped me a lot to look for my supervisor and started my program. The International Student Center arranged Chinese language program with the other students so that I can communicate with the Chinese people for day-to-day conservation. My supervisor was very expert in speaking English and Russian language too and was highly trained in MIS education branch. He taught me very actively and I learned a lot from him. Harbin is the first place when I see the snow first and I feel very happy when I see it for the first time. . This was a great interesting moment for my life. However I live at foreigner’s dormitory, which is world class. I was in Canada for my higher study .I know their system and I have got all the preference and living facility in the same away here.
I was so interested further study that I was granted HIT scholarship again. This time I study Engineering Economics at masters. My supervisor is very famous and he is in this field for long time. I leaned from him Chinese Economy System from him and gained a lot of learning experience. There is lot of interesting things happens here specially and I should say library is very rich in books and journals.
Compare to economical sense Harbin is most favorable for students favor. The cost of living expenditure is much better and buy things little bit cheaper and available. Moreover in winter the room heater is so furnished that you won’t feel that it is cold here. I am very happy to be student of HIT and I hope those new comers will come to HIT, it will be added core competency to their career.

Hi, my name is Javaid Khurshid and I am from Pakistan.I am here in HIT (Harbin Institute of Technology) for the last two years in the department of Computer Science and Technology, for my PhD studies. My supervisor is a well-known professor in his field and very helpful. Also the department is famous because of its research. In China the overall ranking of HIT is higher.
At first I faced some difficulties to adjust myself in cold climate but now it is ok. In winter rooms are warmer than Pakistan’s rooms because of good heating system. But outside temperature is low. Some people fear from winter but interestingly you will not feel any coldness when you are inside your home or laboratory or even in a shopping mall. This was strange for me as I have never been in this situation before. In winter where you enjoy snow falling you can also enjoy the world famous Ice and Snow Festival. This festival is worth seeing. Summer is not hot at all. In all, this place is good for learning and living, the life of Harbin is enjoyable.
To study at Harbin Institute of Technology is a great experience. The university has a friendly atmosphere which welcomes foreigners to study Chinese and enjoy a Chinese way of life. With Harbin's unique history, beautiful old architecture and tasty food, there's always a new place to explore, always a new face eager to chat. I've lived in China for the past year, working in Suzhou, studying in Tianjin and traveling throughout. I am spending my last two months in Harbin to study with CET's intensive Chinese program at HIT along with my American classmates. The teachers here are enthusiastic, the classes are small and focused, and my Chinese is improving quickly. Harbin's very standard spoken Chinese makes this an ideal place to learn, refine and perfect all aspects of Chinese language. I will soon return to the United States and continue my undergraduate studies in international relations at Carleton College in Minnesota. I am excited to further the relationship between China and the US. I will miss Harbin, HIT, and my new Chinese friends, but I look forward to the opportunity to come back to China and work alongside HIT's graduates.
