Introduction


Heihe University, known as “the pearl of the north”, is situated in the city of Heihe in Heilongjiang Province. It stands next to the third biggest city in the Russian Far East –Blagoveshchensk, which is located on the other side of Heilongjiang River. Heihe University is the first regular undergraduate university along the Sino-Russia 4300 kilometre border.

Heihe University has a campus area of 536,000 square meters with a campus construction area of 243,600 square meters. The University employs 782 teaching and administrative staff, 518 of whom are professional teachers. At present, the university has 15 departments that award 36 majors of bachelor degree. There are two national characteristic specialties and three provincial key construction specialties. The International Education and Exchange Center in Heihe University Specializes in international students’ enrollment, teaching and management. There is a building, with a construction area of 17,000 square meters, named “Friendship Building” in the Center which combines teaching, living and food &beverages together so that it is convenient for students’ life and study. Every year, students who are come to study undergraduate, general advanced learning and short-program training here from Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Nepal, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam.

Heihe University has been commissioned by Chinese Government Scholarship, Heilongjiang Province Government Scholarship and Confucius Institute. Every year, excellent international students will be selected and awarded the university Scholarship to give them encouragement.

The Center


The International Education Exchange and Cooperation Center (briefly called The Center) is one of the two important wings in "One Body Two Wings"-the university running pattern, functions as running school tasks of the national overseas study training basis to Russia and all level international study to Heihe University in China. University learners from different countries and nationalities live and study pleasantly here, which attracts much attention on campus.

There is a complex building which combines teaching, living area and, food and beverages together. The construction area is around 17,000 square meter, in which there is twelve classrooms, eight office rooms, one library, one reading room, one entertainment room, one 300 square meter dinning room which can provide accomodation with altogether 600 teachers and students. There is a university hospital locates on one side ofthe building which is convinent for students. The domitory is eqquiped with the necessary living needs, which includes a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, an independent toilet with a shower, TV and network.

There are altogether nineteen teachers now in which there are eleven Chinese teachers and eight Russian teachers, there are three senior and high title teachers, thirteen intermediate title teachers, three primary title teachers; there are seventeen teachers attained master degree, there are two postgraduate candidates and three graduate candidates. The Chinese teachers group is highly experienced in teaching among the eleven Chinese teachers of which there are three who have the experience of teaching Chinese in foreign university or Confucious Institute. And there is a teacher who is now teaching in Confucious Institute.

In 2003, the Center recruits formally international students. The development during the ten years have largely won affirmation and recognition of the society. The Center became a member unit of Confucious Insitute Scholarship and Summer Camp Organizer of scholarship students for Confucious Institute in 2009. The Center has been approved as a program unit of Chinese Governemnt Scholarship and Heilongjiang Government Scholarship. The international students scale expand gradually in the Center. The international students' nationality develops in diversity. Students come in a large number from Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Nepal, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam.

The management in the Center shows the feature of humanistic and characteristic culture. The management department is responsible for students' preocedure work and daily life management. Chinese teaching and research office is responsible for students' teaching and study management. There is a excellant teacher in a class who cooperates with the international students department in charge of the students' daily life. Courses offered to studetns show great emphasis on the combination of language learning and cultural experience. Besides major courses, there is also optional courses offered to students: martial arts, tea ceremony, paper-cutting, calligrapgy, Chinese painting. In order to enrich the international students extracurricular life and improve their performance, the Center regularly organizes differnet forms of activities and games: Chinese Compition, jumping rope, cooking compitition, ball-playing compitition, foreign and Chinese students' federation, foreign-Chinese students' pairs.

The Center is regarded as a different department in Heihe University. All teachers in the Center share the same goal in their work: Every student is a child of the teacher whose resposibility is to cultivate them to be successful.
