Harbin Engineering University (in short HEU, formerly Harbin Military Engineering Institute) is located in Harbin, ice city, near beautiful Songhua River. Founded in 1953, HEU is one of the key universities in the national "211 Project" (to set up 100 national key universities in 21st Century) and the first batch of key constructed universities in China having Graduate School and National Science Park. HEU’s major personnel training and scientific research in the field of shipbuilding engineering, ocean exploration, and nuclear energy applications. Ministry of Education, China awards “A (excellent)” to HEU in the governmental evaluation for Undergraduate and Postgraduate education projects.

To pay more attention to inernational exchange and cooperation programs and adher to the process of internationalization and open-running, at present, HEU is one of the Chinese Government Scholarship institutions and one of national high-level universities in China to send excellent postgraduate students abroad. HEU has established wide and substantial partnerships from over 100 universities and research institutions, in more than 20 countries, such as USA, UK, Russia, Austrilia, Japan, Korea etc. in joint programs in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. HEU has also set up “Harbin Engineering University Scholarship(in short HEU Scholarship)” for international students with most degree programs lecturing in English. In the past years, HEU has taught more than 2000 international students from 59 countries, covering Asia, Europe, America, Africa, and Oceania.

HEU campus covers 1.261 million M2 , has 3168 staff, including 8 academicians, 290 doctoral tutors, 1,180 professors and associate professors, and 24367 students in different levels, that is, 12868 undergraduate students, 8550 postgraduate students, 1783 PhD students. There are 12 post-doctoral research stations, 25 doctoral degree disciplines, 95 postgraduate disciplines, (including MBA, MPA), and 50 undergraduate disciplines.
