Chinese Summer-term Enrolment, Bohai University

  In order to enhance the cultural exchange between china and other countries and let more foreign students come to china to learn Chinese, International Exchange Center, Bohai University is now enrolling foreign students to study Chinese of Summer-term training.

(I) About Bohai University
     Bohai University (BU), which is located in a beautiful seaside city¡ªJinzhou, is a comprehensive university in China¡¯s Liaoning Province. BU faces in the south a crystal-clear river¡ªNu'er River, across which stands a high mountain¡ªNanshan Mountain. There are rows of buildings with strong European style, a magnificent modernized library, and a splendid artificial lake covering an area of 33,350 square meters.

     BU covers a land area of 1,313,990 square meters. It has 440,000 square meters of floor area, a permanent asset of 909,390,000 RMB, and a library with 1,250,000 volumes of books. In BU, there are 6 departments, 15 colleges, 4 research institutes, 11 programs for master¡¯s degree including master¡¯s degree in education, 35 programs for bachelor¡¯s degree, and 25 programs for advanced vocational and technical education. At present, there are totally 1,643 staff members, 929 of whom are teachers by profession, 112 of whom are professors, and 337 of whom are associate professors. There are 22,000 full-time students, and 6000 adult students.

(II) Chracteristics£º
1. Bohai University (BU) has got a group of high quality Chinese language teachers with different capabilities including linguists, professors and professional Chinese language teachers.
2.According to their respective mastery of the Chinese language, international students are grouped into different small-sized classes with 5students in each class. In such small-sized classes, the students have more chance to communicate with the teachers so that a better teaching result is achieved.
3. In order to improve students' ability to speak Chinese and to practice Chinese, BU has prepared for them select textbooks and recordings and first-class language labs. In addition, students have a lot of in-class practices and out-of-class activities
4. BU opens electives courses with Chinese characteristics, such as traditional Chinese medicine, Qigong, Shadowboxing, Chinese style cooking and so on
5. BU adopts totally new management theory and warm-hearted service to make the international students feel at home and make rapid progress
6. BU is located in the urban center with a convenient access to traffic, banks, markets and shops.
7. Wonderful language situation: People in Jinzhou all speak standard Chinese instead of dialects.
8. Very low living cost here: Though living standard here is high, the living cost is comparatively low. You can buy things very cheap in Jinzhou.

(III) Student Types and Time Arrangement:
1. Student Types: Whoever in the world is willing to study Chinese may enroll himself/herself, provided that he/she is within the age of 17~60 and satisfies the enrollment requirements.
2. Application Time: Before July 18th,2005
3. Training hours: from July 18th to Aug. 12th( except Satur. and Sun.)
4. Teaching hours: 20 classes per week
5. Modules: Elementary Chinese Elementary Spoken Chinese

(IV) Procedures of Application
1. Download the application form by yourselves on the internet
2. Send a Fax to us the following materials (either in Chinese or English):

• Personal Resume
• Photo-page and Visa-page of your passport
3.you can take your traveling-visa to come to our university
4. Inform us of your arrival time and we'll pick you up at the Jinzhou airport or the railway station free of charge.

(V) Fees:
1. Teaching material fee: according to the books
2. Tuition: You need to pay US$200 from July 18th to Aug. 12th
