Snacking on the Dock of the Bay: Popular Food Streets in Shenzhen

With Guangdong cuisine (Yue Cai) as its main culinary style, other regional flavors, such as Sichuan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hunan, and Guangxi dishes, are flourishing along several snack streets, Each has its trump card. Diners can also enjoy exotic food with Chinese characters, such as Russian, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and American cuisine. But where to find popular food streets in Shenzhen? Allow this guide to whet your appetite

1) Dongmen Snack Street
Dongmen Snack Street, a recreational shopping district as well as an old snack street, has long been a very popular place for young people to shop, watch movies, and enjoy delicious food, or, to put it simply, kill time. Two of our favourite restaurants are Zixiamen Korean Cuisine and Sheng Shi Tang Gong.

2) Bagua Lu Snack Street 
Bagua Lu Snack Street is actually nine streets of popular restaurants. Due to its long history and the fact that most restaurants serve up authentic Cantonese dishes these streets gain frequent mention in Shenzhen guidebooks. Stroll down the street and see what is on offer but we recommend Sheng Ji restaurant, which is open until 03:00 if you need late night munchies.

3) Jingtian Snack Street
Jingtian Snack Street, located at Jintian Beilu, offers the best Guangdong, Hunan, Northeast China and Sichuan dishes. One of its better restaurants is Shun De Lao and do make sure to try the Sichuan Douhua Chuanweitang.

4) Overseas Chinese Town Snack Street 
Overseas Chinese Town Snack Street, in the back of Huaxia Art Center, has about 16 restaurants offering cuisines of many different flavors. Recommended restaurants are Wangpin Taishuo Steak, the French Restaurant, Cuiyuan, Hanyang Guan, and Danguixuan.

5) Xiangmi Lake Food Street
Xiangmi Lake Food Street has long since been claimed as the hottest snack street for local people; between seventy and eighty thousand people come here every night to munch on some of the various goodies that come in all shapes and sizes. The newly built barbecue square is a massive draw for the locals too.

6) Huaqiang Commercial Center
Located at the cross of Yannan Road and Zhenghua Road, Huaqiang Business Center, though the most bustling business circle in Shenzhen, has many famous restaurants featuring a great variety of Sichuan, Anhui and Cantonese cuisines.

7) Seafood Food Street 
As a coastal city, Shenzhen has some of the best sea food in China. Go to Leyuanlu Seafood Street in Luohu District for big seafood meals at affordable prices. You can enjoy the different sights and smells of the food as most of the restaurants are simple outdoor stalls. In Yantian Seafood Street, and Nan’ao Shuitou Seafood Street between Dapeng Village and Nan’ao Village you can not only enjoy delicious seafood, but you can also buy fresh seafood from retail markets also at reasonable prices.
