Preview of the Coming Drama Night of GDUFS

Dec10- This afternoon in Yunshan Auditorium, third year FELC students held their second rehearsal for the 12th Drama Night that will take place on December 18th. Drama Night is an annual GDUFS event and enjoys a good reputation throughout Guangzhou.

There will be four dramas, all adaptations of American stories, on the stage this year. Each of the three departments (Translation & Interpreting, Cultural Studies, and Literary Studies) has its own drama while the other departments will perform together.

Behind the curtain, participants of Drama Night are optimistic about the coming show. According to Sunny Sun, the director of the play The Children's Hour, two months of preparations has gone into each play. After the second rehearsal, Sunny believes, the performance still has room for improvement. In the two months of practice, her team members combated quite a lot of obstacles and overcame them with cooperative effort.

As an actor in the play The Crucible, Kevin said each rehearsal serves as an opportunity for him to check his performance. While the play adapter of The Crucible, Ning Hao, was most confident about the theme of the play which, he thought, will be novel when compared with others.

Since acting and speaking lines in a drama are done by different students, respectively the performers and the dubbers, the toughest matter may be the coordination between the two tasks, how to come out as "one". Maren Xiao was one of the students who had to face this challenge. She was a dubber in the play Trifles, but she told the reporters that she had little worry about coordination with her partner, because after practicing for two months they understand each other quite well.

 Dubbing is hard work

How did the judges feel about the drama rehearsal? Richard Johnson remarked that the second rehearsal was "much much better" than the last one. However, he went onto say that there was still room space for improvement, especially in the dubbing. All in all, he appreciated the excellent performances.
