RUC Senior Administrative Personnel Delegation Visits US Universities
The RUC Senior Administrative Personnel Delegation of 11 members led by Mr. Liu Xiangbing, Assistant President and Director of President’s Office, visited Princeton University, Cornell University, University of Minnesota and California State University Fullerton from Nov. 12th to 22nd, 2009.
Holding the principle of emphasizing efficiency, quality and deep communication, the delegation studied a lot from the four universities on management through visiting, panel discussion and various forms.
On Nov.13th, the RUC delegation visited Princeton University and had communications with representatives in charge of university development, basic construction and operation, as well as faculty and student administration. Both sides exchanged views on such issues as alumni affairs, nomination of such administrative personnel as school Deans and department Directors, assessment of faculty and administrative personnel, raising and managing fund, psychological counseling of students, student employment, and the visiting study of RUC administrative personnel in charge of student affairs at Princeton University.
From Nov. 16th to 17th, the RUC delegation visited Cornell University (CU). Prof. Kent Fuchs, CU Provost, Paul Streeter, CU Interim Vice President for Planning & Budget, Mary Opperman, CU Vice President for Human Resources, Glenn Altschuler, Vice President for University Relations & Dean of the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, and representatives from CU School of Industrial and Labor Relations, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, Department of History, Department of Asian Studies, met with the RUC delegation. Both sides reached consensus on the Visiting Senior Administrative Personnel Program, and made initial intents on the Senior Administrative Personnel’s study, library administration, visiting faculty and student exchange. RUC School of Arts and CU achieved the intent on holding art exhibitions respectively in the two universities.
From Nov.18th to 19th, the RUC delegation visited University of Minnesota (U of M), including Law School, China Center, College of Liberal Arts, College of History, Museum, and Library. Both sides exchanged views on faculty and student exchanges, training of the teachers of RUC School of Foreign Languages, administrative personnel’s study and reached partial cooperative intents. Prof. Meredith M. McQuaid, Associate Vice President and Dean for International Programs, welcomed the RUC delegation, introduced the budget management, academic strategy, disciplinary plan of U of M, and would like to help promote the exchanges and collaboration between the two universities. On the evening of Nov.18th, the RUC delegation attended the 30th anniversary celebration of U of M China Center. Mr. Liu Xiangbing, RUC Assistant President and Director of RUC President’s Office, read RUC President Prof. Ji Baocheng’s congratulatory letter. RUC presented a calligraphy work Golden Bridge created by Prof. Zheng Xiaohua, Senior Deputy Dean of RUC School of Arts, to express the best wishes for the China Center.
RUC delegation visited the California State University Fullerton (CSUF) on Nov. 20th. Dr. Ephraim Smith, Vice President for Academic Affairs at CSUF, and Mrs. Smith feted the RUC delegation in the evening.
RUC Delegation members believed that they benefited a lot during this visit. They studied the management system and performance from the above universities, broadened the international views and enhanced the consciousness of “All for the students, teaching and scientific research”. They also learnt the significance of developing RUC disciplines and constructing campus. Besides, they witnessed the rise of RUC’s international place as the development of RUC, and were deeply aware of the importance of enhancing the university’s internationality for realizing the strategic goal of building a world top university. The RUC delegation members will summarize their gains and energetically put them into the practice of their future work.
