Chen Qimao International Academic Seminar Was Held

On the afternoon of December 5, “Chen Qimao International Academic Seminar”was grandly held on Xuhui campus. The seminar was organized by Schoolof Internationaland Public Affairs. Director of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee, Liu Yungeng attended the seminar and delivered a speech. Pan Shiwei, vice minister of Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Yang Jiemian, President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, as well as the leaders and experts at Shanghai Society of International Relations, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, other research institutions for international issues, other colleges and universities, altogether over 50 people participated at the seminar. The seminar was hosted by Hu Wei, Dean of School of International and Public Affairs.

Firstly, Director Liu Yungeng delivered a speech at the opening ceremony to express his warm congratulations to the convening of “Chen Qimao International Academic Seminar”and his heartfelt thanks to the talent and intellectual support which has long been provided by ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversityand the Schoolof Internationaland Public Affairs. He reviewed the academic research history of Chen Qimao, summed up his academic thoughts on international issues, spoke highly of his spirit and character, as well as his achievements in international strategic issues and Asia-Pacific political and security issues, and hoped that Professor Chen Qimao and School of International and Public Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University could make greater achievements in the future.

The seminar was the first to issue the book “Explore the World in Transformation–Collected Works of Chen Qimao”. Professor Chen Qimao is an influential experts at international relations in Shanghai, a famous alumnus of SJTU, the former President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and Shanghai Society of International Relations, the current consultant of School of International and Public Affairs, honorary director of SJTU Center for Rim-Pacific Research, and Chairman of Shanghai Center for Rim-Pac Strategic and International Studies, etc. Before the seminar, Party Secretary of SJTU, Ma Dexiu cordially met with Director Liu Yungeng, Professor Chen Qimao and other guests, accompanied by Dean Hu Wei. Director Liu Yungeng indicated that the Municipal People’s Congress would provide greater research platform for Schoolof Internationaland Public Affairs. Guo Shuyong, assistant dean of Schoolof Internationaland Public Affairs, Wang Shaojin, Director of Center for Rim-Pacific Research, Secretary Jin Yingzhong and some teachers from Department of International Relations also participated in the seminar.
