It learns the successful operational experience from the international high-end medical institutions, and implements the operation mode of separation of “construction”from “management”and “use”. The “Center”covers about 375 acres, with estimated investment of 600 million yuan in Phase I to build a general hospital with two specialty centers. It is equipped with 250 beds and a certain number of operation rooms, public inspection and testing centers and other auxiliary facilities. In Phase II several specialty centers will be constructed around this general hospital. When the project is completed, it will fully meet the needs for medical services in Shanghai and the rim areas and optimize the international layout of Shanghai medical services.

Under the agreement, the main body of project investment and construction is the Shanghai International Medical Center Investment Management Co. Ltd. SJTU School of Medicine and the 12 hospitals affiliated to it will be responsible for the medical technologies, and establish a high-end medical service system by attracting dominant disciplines from domestic and foreign well-known hospitals. SJTU School of Medicine will organize and coordinate the affiliated hospitals to introduce dominant professional technologies into the International Medical Center and send chief medical experts and outstanding medical teams to the Center; meanwhile, it will actively promote the cooperation between affiliated hospitals and the Center in aspects of brand and technology, etc. The two parties will abide by the principles and spirits of the framework agreement, to implement every work, speed up the progress of the project and strive to complete the pre-construction in the end of 2010.
