SJTU Won 4 A's in Michelin Challenge Bibendum
The SJTU School of Mechanical Engineering partook in the 10th Michelin Challenge Bibendum, held in Rio de Janeiro from May 30 to June 3, as the only Chinese team and won 4 of the 6 indexes, including discharge, CO2, noise reduction and steering stability. The challenge was led by energy innovation.
Nearly 200 new energy automobiles from over 80 countries gathered together at the challenge in Rio de Janeiro, including almost all of the world-class automobile enterprises, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, GM, Toyota, VW, Honda, Audi, Citroen, Fiat, and Hyundai. A team composed of six people from the SJTU Institute of Automotive Engineering led by Prof. Yin Chengliang took part in the challenge with extended range electric vehicles.
There are four grades, A, B, C, and D, in every competition of the Michelin Challenge Bibendum, and only the A-winners can be awarded a medal. Teams fall into different categories according to the kinds of vehicles, for example, fuel-cell vehicles, electric vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles, etc. The SJTU team did a good job and won 4 medals in the tests of steering stability, discharge, and noise, etc. Of all the 200 vehicles, 70 completed all the tests, with 2 winning 5 A’s and 7 winning 4 A’s in the electric vehicles group.
