Co-organized by SJTU and OOAE under ASME, The 29^thInternational Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering is held in Shanghai from June 7^th to 11^th, which is undertaken by the National Key Lab for Ocean Engineering of SJTU and supported by Chinese Society of Oceanography, China Ship Scientific Research Center, and other research institutes. The conference is chaired by Professor Chen Gang, vice president of SJTU and hosted by Li Runpei, former vice president of SJTU and former head of the National Key Lab for Ocean Engineering.

It’s reported that this is the 1^st time for the OMAE Conference to be held in China. Experts and researchers from all over the world in ocean and arctic engineering gather together in Shanghai to have an active communication on hot issues and the latest research achievements and explore the future cooperation in the fields of offshore technology, ocean structural safety and reliability, material technology, sea-bed pipeline construction technology, ocean platform design and construction technology, utilization of ocean space, ocean engineering and arctic science and technology, CFD, VIV, renewable marine energy, marine geology, marine hydrodynamics. More than 500 experts from over 40 countries participated in the conference.

For a long time, the National Key Lab for Ocean Engineering of SJTU has been engaged in a wide range of basic and applied researches as well as researches on key technologies which directly serve the construction of national economy and defense to meet the demands of national strategies, catch up with the trend of academic frontier and serve the industries. They have made noticeable research achievements in the main battlefield of national economy construction.

The OMAE Conference was initiated by OOAE under ASME in 1982 and has been annually held for 28 years. Till now, the OMAE Series Conference is generally recognized as the top-level international conference on ocean engineering. The conference aims to promote international academic exchange in ocean and offshore engineering, progress in the development of deep-ocean oil and gas resources, and cooperation among countries all over the world.It’s the 1^st time for OMAE Series Conference to be held in China, which indicates the rise of China’s international status in the field of ocean engineering. Meanwhile, it well demonstrates that China’s progress in ocean engineering and the development of deep-ocean oil and gas resources has drawn international attention and been widely recognized.
