President Zhang Jie Met with the Delegation led by President of Ohio State University
On the morning of July 1, 2010, President Zhang Jie met with the delegation led by President E. Gordon Gee of Ohio State University. The two parties signed the cooperation memo. Vice Dean William I. Brustein and Acting Dean of Engineering School, Gregory Washington from the Ohio State University participated in the meeting.
President Zhang Jie extended the warmest welcome to the visiting delegation and said that China’s economy encountered great challenges in the fields of energy and environment during the 30 years’ rapid development. In order to guarantee the sustainable development of economy and society, China had to struggle to solve aforementioned problems. The US has accumulated a lot of successful experience in these fields, which is worthy of learning. SJTU is willing to develop practical cooperation with OSU in various realms like environment, energy, medicine, etc. President Zhang suggested that both parties should strengthen communication between graduate students to promote research work of both universities.
President Gordon Gee agreed with President Zhang. He said, energy, environmental protection, medical health, and community construction were common challenges all the universities and colleges in the world were facing now. He was very glad to see cooperative and close relationship between Ohio State University and SJTU had been established and he expressed the wish that both parties should have more cooperation in engineering, medicine and humanities after signing the cooperation memo. More students from OSU will come to SJTU as exchange students and more students from SJTU are welcomed to study in OSU.
Jin Wei, Head of SJTU Division of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Du Chaohui, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of SJTU, Yin Weihai, Vice Head of the Med-X Institute, Li Ping, Dean Assistant of School of Electronic, Electrical, Information Engineering, Yin Chengliang, Professor from School of Mechanical Engineering attended the meeting.Ohio State University is one of the largest public universities in America with 50,000 students. OSU has long-term cooperation with School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Life Sciences, and School of Electronic, Electrical, Information Engineering of SJTU. At the end of June this year, Acting Dean of the Engineering School of OSU led a delegation to visit the above three schools of SJTU to further the discussions over cooperation between two parties.
