Students from Tibet University

After two years of distance learning, 34 students from Tibet University successfully finished all the courses for the major of business administration at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Recently, they were so exciting that they obtained the diplomas of second bachelor’s degree from SJTU.

To follow China’s western region development strategy and to promote high-level talent  there, SJTU has cooperated with Tibet University, Ningxia University and other colleges and universities since the year of 2001 in the move “Study Courses Cross Universities” by utilizing the technological advantage in network platform for modern distance education: live broadcast of classroom teaching. In 2007, SJTU initiated the program “Study Second Bachelor’s Degree Cross Universities” based on the previous work. Teachers from Tibet University participated in teaching practice as course tutors. The first group of 120 students from Tibet University joined the program and entered for SJTU’s second bachelor’s degree program in business administration. After two and a half years of distance learning, 34 students got requested credits, passed the thesis assessment, and successfully received diplomas.

Vice President Huang Zhen of SJTU went to Tibet University to attend those students’ graduation ceremony of second bachelor’s degree. He said, it’s an innovative act of importance to provide students of Tibet University with opportunities to pursue SJTU’s second degrees. “Study Courses Cross Universities” breaks the confinement of education resources and facilities of universities in western regions, explores the cooperative education between universities in West China and East China and the new nurturing mode of interdisciplinary talents, and creates a new mechanism in sharing high quality education resources of universities in eastern regions with those universities in western regions.
