Beijing Foreign Studies University – the Chinese Spring Festival
On January 31st, 2012 the Confucius Institute of the University of Vienna invited everyone to the Chinese Spring Festival in the Großer Festsaal of the University of Vienna. The program this year involved Hanban, the Office of Chinese Language Council International, the Confucius Institute Headquarters as organizer and a delegation of the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
The Confucius Institute gladly presented the opening of the European tour “Spring Festival of the Confucius Institutes” in Vienna. With further stops in Linz, Graz, Romania and Bulgaria the delegation travels around Europe for 10 days to offer a colorful program.
Punctually at 7p.m. the doors of the Großer Festsaal at the University of Vienna opened. Not only the small guests were happy about presents, but also the adults enjoyed the traditional Chinese gifts from the delegation.
When the guests had arrived, the directors of the Confucius Institute, Ms. Jing Wang and Prof. Richard Trappl, gave a welcome speech in German and Chinese. Also H.E. SHI Mingde, the Chinese Ambassador in Austria, and the vice-secretary of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, Prof. JIANG Xufan, hold speeches. Both are very happy about the participation at the festival.
The student ensemble of the Beijing Foreign Studies University presented a colorful and varied program of dances, songs, Chinese martial arts and Chinese painting and calligraphy. They offered traditional Chinese folk songs such as “Bu Bu Gao” and “Magnificent flowers and a round moon”. A vocal ensemble sang, to the delight of the Austrian audience, the song “The Blue Danube”. Especially, the Peking Opera, which could be enjoyed in his natural sound, fascinated the audience.
