Top Nationality University Opens Graduate Program on Tibet Buddhism

Minzu University of China, the country's top nationality university holds opening ceremony for the first graduate class on Tibet Buddhism, affiliated under the major of Tibetan Studies, on Tuesday in Beijing.

The Tibetan Buddhism class for graduates is jointly organized by the university and Fjnet.com, a major online supplier of Buddhist reporting and information.

Zhaba, vice president of the university's graduate school for Tibetan Studies briefed on the courses, faculty and enrolment of the new class, saying not only philosophical courses and lectures but also history and monastery management courses will be held.

Also studies over China's religious policy and current situations and comparative studies over different religions and religious arts will be conducted, Zhaba said.

The graduate class on Tibetan Buddhism is designed to cultivate more professional clergyman and administrative experts, said Tong Fengying, deputy director-general of the website partner.

The class will also serve as a platform for communication between administrators and priesthood, in the meanwhile strengthening cultural exchange and cooperation through professional courses, lectures and academic interactions, Tong said .

After the ceremony, Chen Qingying, famous tibetologist with the China Tibetology Research Center and doctoral advisor at the Minzu University presented the first class "An Orientation over Tibetan Buddhist Classics".

Certificates will be conferred by the university to students who completes the courses and pass the examination. Also qualified students are also eligible to apply for a master's degree and will be recognized after a set of assessments, paper writing and thesis defence, according to the class organizers.
