On the morning of October 8, 2009, President Zhang Jie met the delegation led by Professor Kutzler, President of the Technical University of Berlin with kindness on Xuhui Campus. Both sides reviewed the long-term friendly and cooperative relationship between the two universities, and talked over the possibility of further cooperation in energy, environment and other fields in the future.

The Technical University of Berlin is a first-class university of technology in German. Since its formal cooperative relationship with SJTU was established in 1983, the cooperation has been very smooth, with high-level visits, jointly application for research projects by professors, co-sponsored academic seminar, jointly training of PhD. Students, etc. conducted almost every year. During Professor Kutzler’s tenure of vice president and president of the Technical University of Berlin, the cooperation between the two universities has made even greater progress. With his active support and assistance, the two universities have conducted the regular bilateral symposium on information, materials, and manufacturing, etc., offered the computer science courses for the dual master’s degree, and set up a joint lab. President Kutzler not only personally gives full value and support to the cooperation with SJTU and treats SJTU as one of the most important cooperative partners in China, but also encourages professors of the young generation to carry out cooperation with professors of SJTU.

In view of the outstanding contributions President Kutzler has made to the cooperation between the two universities, President Zhang Jie in behalf of SJTU conferred on him honorary professor of ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity. President Kutzler said, he felt very honored and proud to be honorary professor of ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity, and he would continue contributing to the cooperation between the two universities. President Kutzler also invited President Zhang Jie to visit the Technical University of Berlin at the beginning of the next year to discuss the cooperation between the two universities in next twenty years. President Zhang Jie happily accepted the invitation. Professor Huanye Sheng, deputy director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Council and former vice president, attended the meeting and presided over the conferring ceremony.
