Seoul Chinese Primary School Hold Celebration for Centennial
Seoul Chinese Primary School on Monday hold celebration on its campus in central Seoul marking its100th anniversary.
The school was founded in 1909 by Chinese immigrants who hoped their children could receive better traditional education. Over the past century, the school had educated nearly 10,000 graduates, some of them has made outstanding contributions in the cultural and economic fields.
The school's chief director Sui Hsing Chin said in the ceremony that as school has cherished the Confucian concept, it always attached importance to preparing its students to be of fine character and well-disciplined. The school also made its best to improve the educational circumstance so as to further promote Chinese culture and help overseas Chinese children better understand their origins.
Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Cheng Yonghua attended the celebratory event. He extended congratulations to the school, and praised its special contributions in spreading Chinese culture, carrying forward the Chinese traditional virtues and helping overseas Chinese in South Korea better integrate into the local society.
The ambassador also appreciated efforts made by overseas Chinese in South Korea, which played a positive role in South Korea's social and economic development, and promoted the exchanges and cooperation between South Korea and China.
He promised that the Chinese embassy will provide more help and support to the school, and hoped it can further contribute to enhancing the cultural quality of entire overseas Chinese community in South Korea, and pushing forward the non-governmental cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The school, which has taught most classes in Chinese, currently has more than 600 students, most of whom were born in South Korea.
