RUC President Prof. Ji Baocheng Meets with Mrs. Grace Mugabe, First Lady of Zimbabwe

The First Lady of Zimbabwe Mrs. Grace Mugabe, as an overseas student enrolled in Renmin University of China, learned Chinese intensively from Oct.20th to Nov.6th, 2009. During this period, RUC President Prof. Ji Baocheng met with Mrs. Mugabe for three times concerning about her learning and living in RUC.

During the meeting, Prof. Ji praised Mrs. Mugabe for her hard learning spirit, appreciated her efforts to promote the mutual exchanges between China and Zimbabwe and would like her to convey his warm greetings to President Mugabe. Mrs. Mugabe said she was satisfied with RUC’s arrangement in teaching and faculty, and also extended her great appreciation for RUC’s warm reception. She expressed her respect to the Chinese people and personal interest in Chinese culture. Meanwhile, Mrs. Mugabe introduced in details about Zimbabwe’s history of fighting against western colonial rule and regaining independence as well as some current existing problems.

Since Mrs. Mugabe was officially admitted by RUC as an overseas student in 2007, RUC had carefully planed for her learning. This time, Mrs. Mugabe was sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) to learn Chinese language in RUC for three weeks. The RUC School of Literary Studies set a well-designed timetable for her including “Chinese Culture”, “Chinese Listening and Speaking” and “Computer Applications”. Three experienced Chinese teachers with strong ability of English communication tutored Mrs. Mugabe for improving her Chinese level.
