Professor Xu Min Was Elected Honorary Fellow of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Internation

On October 1, 2009, through the selection by council and Fellow Committee of SAE International, Professor Xu Min of School of Mechanical Engineering, SJTU was selected SAE Fellow and became the first person of China’s universities to be the SAE Fellow.

SAE International, formerly known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, was founded in 1905. It is the internationally largest engineering and academic society committed to better serve the human by developing the mobile technology. Its fellows are from the fields of cars, trucks, mobile machinery shops, aircrafts, engines, materials and manufacturing technologies, etc. of over 97 countries. SAE Fellow is the highest title for SAE members and has been conferred since 1975 as the recognition of the great achievements made in the aspects of engineering development, scientific research and industry leading, etc. and as the commendation to the outstanding fellows who promote the development of the automotive industry. In view of the outstanding achievements made by Professor Xu Min in the R&D strategy reform and innovation of CHERY Automobile, and his pedagogical and research achievements in spray and laser diagnostic techniques, the SAE Fellow Committee decided to confer Professor Xu Min this honorary title. At the annual conference of SAE which will be held in Detroit, US, in April 2010, Professor Xu Min will be particularly invited with all the other 23 newly-selected fellows to participate in the SAE Fellow Welcoming Dinner and the Award Ceremony. Professor Xu Min now is Assistant President of ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity, and director of Research Institute of Automotive Engineering. He has long been engaged in the research on fuel spray and combustion and R&D of the engine advanced technology. Since 2006, the year he started working at SJTU, he has been leading the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering to build a large platform for car disciplines, jointly declared the National Engineering Laboratory for Automotive Electronic-Control Technique with other schools and departments of SJTU and succeeded. Now he is committed to building the world-class R&D base for Core Technology of Electric Vehicles. He has undertaken a large number of frontier technology research and product R&D projects cooperated by the government, automobile companies and the world, established the automobile powertrain technology partnership with the U.S. General Motor, and gradually built a number of world-class engine spray and combustion research laboratories and cutting-edge engine research laboratories. Part of the achievements in scientific research has been transformed into products.
