NIIT Expert Megh Talks about Service Outsourcing Industry in China

The launching conference for the GDUFS Research Institute of International Services Outsourcing was held on north campus this afternoon. Mr. Megh, Head-Business Development from NIIIT(National Institution of Information and Technology) to China office, attended the conference and talked about India’s experiences in developing the service outsourcing industry. He warmly accepted our interview just before the conference.

According to Mr.Megh, although the current economic recession is slowing down the growth rate of Chinese outsourcing, there is still huge potential for development of this industry due to the Chinese government’s strong stimulus policy. He went onto say that the most serious issue for China’s outsourcing sector right now is to fill the widening gap between the supply and demand of professional talent.  This calls for the universities and training bases to cultivate more graduates who able to meet the standards of private enterprises.

When asked about the recipe for India’s success in service outsourcing industry, Mr. Megh referred to the efficient pattern for training people. The pattern involves all the four stakeholders (universities, training bases, enterprises and the government), with the first three sharing a common standard for training and the government offering policy and financial support. He said he was happy to see that China’s outsourcing industry was adopting this pattern gradually, as an increasing number of this kind of training bases are popping up in big cities like Shanghai, Dalian and Wuxi. Another training center will also be established very soon here in Nansha, Guangdong, which Mr.Megh hoped would become the largest training base in Southern China and would provide highly-qualified people to the private sector.

Megh believed China and India, both in command of abundant labor forces and strong support from the government, have very similar comparative advantages in developing the service outsourcing industry. He expressed his hope for a deeper and wider cooperation between the two countries in the future, especially in the field of knowledge and talent exchange.
