“Xuesen’s Spirit is a power. This power is passed on and prosperous, and will certainly drive the SJTU-ers to valiantly strive and will certainly promote the rapid development of Chinese scientific undertakings.” On the afternoon of November 2, the symposium for SJTU students to recall and learn from Qian Xuesen’s thought and spirit was held on Minhang Campus to recall Senior Qian Xuesen and learned from Xuesen spirit of “patriotism, dedication, seeking truth and creativity”.

All the participants stood in silence to mourn for beloved senior Qian Xuesen. Subsequently, Ms. Sheng Yi from the Party History and UniversityHistoryResearchCentertold the study story of Qian Xuesen at SJTU with the abundant picture materials and introduced his life and scientific achievements. Mr. Shi Guiquan from ArchivesMuseumanalyzed and expounded the Qian Xuesen’s spirit and thoughts to show his scientific life bearing. Students made statements one after another to express their enthusiasm and determination to study Qian Xuesen’s spirit.

“Xuesen Spirit is the loyal and unwavering patriotism, the work-to-death and selfless dedication, the meticulous truth-seeking spirit, and the continuously enterprising, keen pioneering innovation. Let’s call him again so that his spirit will be stamped deeply in our heart forever.” The meeting condensed the Xuesen spirit into “patriotism, dedication, truth-seeking and innovation”, and called on students to learn from it and constantly carry it forward.

Doctoral candidate Wang Yu said: “Senior Qian Xuesen has left us with the precious spirit which we will never forget.” Yang Ziqi, a student from Schoolof Mechanical Engineering, said: “Xuesen spirit is a call, but also an appeal. Let’s go into action, and stride forward with Senior Qian’s spirit.” Wu Zheying, the host of the symposium, said: “Today we are gathering here to cherish the memory of Senior Qian to inherit and carry forward his spirit. We should seize the right time, identify our position, be mindful of our motherland, serve the people and never fail in our mission.”Many students expressed that the convening of the forum was not only for the memorial of Senior Qian Xuesen, but also the purification of the students who participated. The spirit of Xuesen, “patriotism, dedication, truth-seeking and innovation” will live forever.
