GDUFS Student Comes Second in National French Speaking Contest

The 2nd "Casio Cup" French Speaking Contest was held in Xi'an International Studies University on October 25th.  Qin Xiao, a French Major at GDUFS, took home second place in the contest.

The 2nd "Casio Cup" National French Speaking Contest is one of the most advanced competitions in French education, aiming to better the development of French teaching. In the preliminary contest held in July, Qin Xiao distinguished herself by earning the highest score, going straight to the finals to compete with other 9 contestants from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Peking University, Communication University of China and others. Xu Zhenhua, member of the Sub-committee of French of National Foreign Language Teaching Committee and the Secretary of the Party Committee of GDUFS, attended the contest as one of the judges.

Qin Xiao received strong support from the Faculty of Western Language and Culture throughout the competition.  She was well instructed by Ms. Chen Huixiang and Ms. Yang Xiaomin from GDUFS’s French department. The topic of the final round was "Chinese Culture and Cross-culture Communication".  Qin Xiao explained the importance of cross-culture communication by beginning her speech with a tour to Beijing in her childhood, combined with a reasonable analysis. When it came to the impromptu speech, Qin Xiao won the favor of the judges with her calmness, quickness of mind and, most importantly, her fluent French.
