University in Jiangsu Reports Pulmonary Tuberculosis Cases
Between Dec. 2 and Dec. 19, 13 pulmonary tuberculosis cases were confirmed on the Eastern Campus of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, according to the Zhenjiang Health Bureau of Jiangsu province.
Officials with the university said the students mainly got infected in dorms or small classrooms. The university has arranged medical examinations for 1,000 teachers and students.
According to disease control experts, universities are always highly susceptible to pulmonary tuberculosis, and once a source of infection comes into being, it will develop into an aggregative epidemic situation easily.
In addition, since autumn and winter are high-incidence seasons of respiratory infectious diseases and the windows and doors are usually closed in this period, the disease spreads much easier.
